Looking to buy a cheap laptop to do some schoolwork and Microsoft package work. Any suggestions?

How cheap? I just picked up a Toshiba Satellite for $599 at Best Buy 3 hours ago. Intel I5 processor, 6gb memory, backlit keyboard, aluminum case etc.

With back-to-school sales, there are a lot of fully functional laptops for between $250 and $300.
I don't think Microsoft offers Works anymore.
From Wikipedia: "Microsoft Works is a discontinued office suite by Microsoft".
