Down in Pensacola this weekend and brought the yak to do some fishing. The weather is perfect. There is almost not surf, it was glass at one point. Fished this morning with someone out of Destin.

Launched at about 7:00 and made bait. Caught some baby Bonita, Speedos and a few cigar minnows. There was bait everywhere, just couldn't catch it. Went less than a mile out, to 55' of water and started dropping frozen cigar minnows.

Caught a bunch of red snapper and a couple mangroves. Had a bunch of mangroves chummed up and got a few of them to take a free lined piece of cut Bonita, but couldn't hook them. The ones caught were on the bottom. Had some big bites on live cigs, but didn't land any of them. Had a bite on a duster rig trolling in, but it didn't take it.

Overall, I had a blast. Kayak fishing in the gulf is awesome. Love being able to catch snapper from the yak with the possibilities of Tuna, Mahi, Kings or even sails.

Here's a few pics.

I'm loving it. Forget dragging around in the marsh for a redfish, I want to launch at the beach for reef fish.

There was nothing to handle. It was calm as hell. Pretty much no waves to speak of. Rode it in all the way to the beach, didn't have to bail.

Dragging that heavy beast through the sand was a challenge though. First thing I did was go buy the new Hobie wheels for it. They are $225 damn dollars, and worth every penny.

They were. Hoping for the same thing tomorrow.

And offshore anglers of the OT, I think one of those is a cubera. Anyone else think so?

There were a couple of hammers off the okaloosa pier yesterday, had a guy from LA get a 140+ tarpon up to the pier today and lost it.

It was pretty slow today. We couldn't catch any bait. Landed a 28" King on a sabiki and a giant Bonito on a duster rig. Caught a bunch of red snapper that went back. Still had a great time.
