Israel and Gaza accuse each other of breaching a temporary truce which is aimed at giving civilians a reprieve from the violence.

At least 25 Palestinians have reportedly been killed and there have also been a number of Israeli casualties after fighting resumed in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli tanks shelled the eastern part of the southern city of Rafah, according to Palestinian officials.

An Israeli government spokesman said artillery was fired in response to a "serious incident" on the border in the Kerem Shalom region while the army said a heavy exchange of fire had erupted.

It happened about two hours into a three-day truce between Israel and Hamas which the US and UN says was aimed at "giving innocent civilians a much-needed reprieve from violence".

Israel said a number of rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza as both sides accused each other of breaching the temporary truce, which began at 8am (6am UK time).

I wondered how long it would last. You can't trust those Palestinians for shite, so they may as well wipe them from the face of the earth.

I just can't believe Israel would break the ceasefire like this.

According to Reuters, it was Israel who violated the ceasefire, just as I predicted.

quote:

Some two hours after the truce went into effect, a Reuters photographer and the Gaza Interior Ministry said Israeli tanks opened fire in the southern Rafah area, and Hamas media reported four people were killed. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Why are Israeli tanks on the Egyptian Gaza border anyway?

This is a fight to the death.

Peace won't break out until one side or the other is dead.

That's exactly what they were doing, as they should have.

Israel didn't have to agree to shite, they could have continued to put foot to arse in Gaza until there was nothing left but rubble and cock roaches, but they agreed to let the citizens get humanitarian aid.

Hamas doesn't give a shite about the Palestinians.

The Israeli military has said one of its soldiers may have been captured during clashes in the southern Gaza Strip.

Fighting resumed around two hours after a three-day ceasefire between Israel and the military group Hamas came into effect.

I called "one hour" in the thread last night. Seems I was off by 30 minutes.

Ask a military person of the IDF.

JPost claims that a bunch of fighters emerged from a tunnel in Gaza 90 minutes after the ceasefire started, set off a suicide bomb, and kidnapped an IDF 2nd LT.

Hamas is not disputing the incident but claims that it happened at 7AM, before the 8:00 AM ceasefire, rather than 9:30 AM.

quote:

The IDF said the incident occurred at 9:30 a.m., but a spokesman for Hamas's military wing claimed the terrorists came out of the tunnel and took part in the ensuing gunfight at 7:00 a.m.

quote:

Around 10 a.m. rocket and artillery fire resumed, bringing an end to the 72-hour humanitarian cease-fire brokered by the UN and the US that went into effect just two hours prior.

I love this he said she said shite

regardless of when it happened you can't kidnap an officer and expect nothing to happen. Hamas was trying to be sneaky if anything and it backfired.

Hamas gonna Hamas.

I think everyone but Kerry and Ban-Ki Moon knew that this ceasefire wasn't going to last long and yet they pushed it through anyway.

There were only two certainties about the ceasefire:

1. It would be broken.

2. Both sides would blame the other for breaking it.

It's quite obvious where the propaganda is heavily leaning. And to no surprise, the sheople follow.

You find what you want to find. Plenty of news and outlets out there. To bad if they all don't agree with each of us.

They got what they wanted. Taking officers as prisoners gives them bargaining chips. I'm sure they expected a response and ideally one coming during the ceasefire.

I don't think it backfired.
