As a casual observer, there would appear to be a great deal of concern over our depth since Lealaimatafao & Godchaux fell from grace. Wasn't Lealaimatafao going to be a red shirt anyway? Is Godchaux healthy enough to even be in the rotation (red shirt)?

I see our depth this way;

Starters - Thomas - Lacouture
Backups - Gilmore - Bain - Herron

I realize that Gilmore, Bain, Herron are all in their 2nd year, however they certainly have the size and talent to play a lot. I don't remember any year under Chavis where our D-Line pay has not been solid.

Rotation - Thomas, Lacouture, Glimore, Bain, Herron

Redshirts - Lealaimatafao, Godchaux, Valentine

I sure hope the rotation is better than a year ago.

Why is that? Has he been sucking or is he even on the roster anymore?

He just isn't very good. Dude was/is really strong but a poor work ethic

Brick Haley was pissed we got him. Never wanted him to begin with.

part of those rushing stats are on the linebacking corp. I expect both groups to be better than last year. Our 2 stars in the middle were not bad - they were good players. they just weren't up to star status that we have grown used to. we didn't have strong linebacking either. It's the front 7, not just the front 4.

Why hasn't Valentine arrived at LSU anyone have any inside track on this?

NM looked it up and saw this from yesterday

Defensive tackle Travonte Valentine, a four-star signee from Miami, had to complete summer course work and planned to enroll in August. He’s awaiting clearance from the NCAA Clearinghouse, he told TigerBait.com

Domond will arrive this weekend though, that is good news

Zero effect on this year. It's Lacouture, Thomas, Gilmore, Bain, and Heron. After that we forfeit.

Id say the exact opposite, our backers were exposed because we got nothing out of our dt rotation. De is fine, and will be fine and I expect with better secondary play we will be better at rushing the passer from the outside.

Thought he was online? Still good news, but won't help our dt rotation.

Uh, you don't have to remember very far back. Last year's D-line play was awful.

Our D-Line depth is fine... Just like any other team if 2 or 3 go down we will be in trouble but our guys haven't shown to be injury prone... (knocking on wood)...

I think we ought to try and figure a way to get coach O on staff it seems our D-line recruiting has taking a step back. CLM has been here for 10 years an it always seemed to be the next man up attitude we knew the year before how good the 2nd string was. For the last two years it doesn't seem that way.

The OP said "solid", not amazing. They werent All World like we hyped them up to be, but they were still solid last year.

We were still top 20 in Total D, and around 30th in rushing D.

No, they werent the elite DL that we have seen in recent years. But they still were solid and better than most.

quote:

Gave up 216 yards on 36 carries (6.0/run) to Miss ST Gave up 196 yards on 36 carries (5.4/run) to UGA Gave up 176 yards on 41 carries (4.3/run) to Ole Miss Gave up 193 yards on 42 carries (4.6/run) to Bama Gave up 182 yards on 34 carries (5.4/run) to ARK
So those 5 games were the entire season? Of course the stats will be skewed when looking at a small sample size. Oh and we help Ole Miss, Bama, and Arkansas below their season average rushing. And we were 1 of the few teams that played against a UGA team that had Gurley (only 1 half, but still 73years in 1st half) and Marshall playing.

We were 15th in Total D, 3rd in the SEC, and only gave up 3.93yards per carry, 15 rushing TDs (2nd in the SEC).

And if you wanna talk about sacks, get on the DEs considering they are the guys that typically get after the QB. Rasco led the team in sacks with just 4.0, Hunter had just 3.0, and Allen had 2.0 (no longer with the team). Cant really blame the DTs for the lack of sacks when our top 2 DEs combined for 7 sacks of the season. Hell, Dwayne Thomas and Mills both had 3.0 sacks each and they are DBs.

No, it wasnt the same dominant DL that we have seen at LSU. But it was not a bad DL. Ego was the 51st pick in the draft. And yes Freak underachieved considering the hype everyone had for him. Early on in his career, he showed flashes and potential to be a great DT. But he never put it all together and got to that level. BUT, he still was an average SEC DL. He did not suck. He just never lived up to the hype that surrounded him.

We werent dominant, but we still were a solid DL.
