BESE joins suit against Jindal on Common Core

2/3 of Jindal appointees agree to suit
From the Advocate
So can supporters of Jindal/opponents of Common Core maybe start to think that Jindal has handled this particular issue badly?
quote:
The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education took the highly unusual step Tuesday of voting to join a lawsuit against Gov. Bobby Jindal -- with two of the governor's three appointees on the board voting in the 6-4 majority. Member Jay Guillot of Ruston was absent.
Said appointee Judy Miranti, "I think that we are in this position because of Gov. Jindal." Connie Bradford voted yes "with a heavy heart."

Do Governors have the ability to make shite go away / ignore the laws like Obama?
Be interesting to see what comes from this.

Governor of Louisiana has ALOT of power, thanks to the out-dated State Constitution and spineless Legislators more than willing to hand off their oversight in exchange for not being held accountable for anything.
Jindal does seem to be doing his best Obama impersonation on this Common Core stuff. Completely ignore the legislative session (where there was numerous bills to delay or eliminate CC), then after-the-fact declare the standards evil and void in Louisiana.

Very much agree. Putting aside pro/anti common core sentiments you have a clash between two constitutional bodies. BESE is in charge of education BUT Jindal is in control of procurement.
So can he use the procurement process to hold up an education policy he doesn't like? Policy-wise, he should not as it seems like an abuse of power to me.
Legally it seems like an interesting question. I am very curious to see what a judge rules.

Hey BigJim--you are seeing the first example of use of those STUPID ethic laws for political purposes now. Those complaints against White could bankrupt him.
I have warned you about this since I fell under those laws and left the volunteer board I was on because of them.
The way Jindal wrote those laws are such that you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent and you have no recourse but to pay the fines and the cost to defend yourself out of your pocket until the Governor appointed ethics judge rules. Only then can you go to district court.
Anyone the governor puts in his cross hairs can be ruined by the power the governor has under those laws. Even if no ethics violation is found you have to prove you did nothing wrong. The ethics board has little obligation to prove it's allegations. They can simply accuse you, force you to pay for defense and fine you time and time again.
They are terrible.
