Best Disneyworld activities for toddlers.....

Taking my twin 2 year olds in October, what are some can't miss things for them? We took them when they were 6 months, but mostly kept things low key on that trip. Though we did take them on a few if the smaller rides/shows. I'm really excited and they keep asking me how much longer til we see Mickey Mouse.

Try to do the character breakfast.
Also, get them an autograph book so they can ask the characters for their autographs. They'll think it's the coolest thing ever.
They may still be a little young for that though. Might get scared by some of the characters.

Too my daughter when she was two.
She liked the she and all of the rides she could go. I expected it to be a shite show. It was great she did well. Really loved the princesses.
So I would say everything she is allowed/capable of doing.

Wife and I are trying to prepare them for the scale of
the characters and think they will be ok, but I guess you never know.

If you are up that early, you want to be in the parks, not sitting in a restaurant. Opt for a character lunch or dinner. By that time, you will be ready for a rest in the AC anyway.
We normally avoid parks that have extra magic hours in the morning and go to a more recommended and less crowded park. Advterised opening time is 9 am for non extra magic hours parks, but they will open up at 8:45. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are more "crowded" at rope drop (opening) because of some of the newer attractions that draw people right when they open but the least crowded hours of the day are the first and last hours the park is open.
This is a "time lapse" of magic kingdom and hollywood studios to show you the diference between arriving at 8:15 and 8:40. Now, it may look crowded but as soon as the park opens, lins for almost everything are nill for about an hour (except for things like Toy Story, Mine TRain, etc).
Beyond that, what I might recommend would depend on if they are boys or girls.

I was there last week.
They have a parade/procession at 11 am down the main street to the Mickey hat, but you have to get there before 10:30 or you won't see shite.
You can build a snowman and ice skate ($10/ea to skate) in the Frozen stuff straight back.

Okay, the reason I ask is because there is currently A Frozen Summer thing going on at Hollywood Studios that is slated to end at the end of August, but it MIGHT be extended. You can read more about it here, but for lets assume it will not be going on.

At Hollywood Studios (as you can see from the pic above), you want to be there no later than about 8:25 for a 9 am opening. Head straight to Toy Story (just follow the crowd). all four will be able to do the ride. As soon as you get off, go across the walkway to meet Buzz & Woody, then walk back towards the Imagination Courtyard to meet Sophia and Jake. Right next to those meet & greets is the Disney Jr show and the Voyage of the Little Mermaid Show, which most little girls love.
You should be able to get all that done by about 10:30 or so. Try to catch the 10:30 Disney Jr show if you can.
If yall want to split up, one parent can take the kids to Disney Jr and the other parent can go to Rock n Roller Coaster (single rider) and Tower of Terror.
The Disney Jr Live on Stage is about 30 minutes, so you would be looking at about 11:00. Get something quick to eat then try and catch the 11:45 Beauty & the Beast showing which is on Sunset Blvd by Tower of Terror.
At this point, the other adult can go do Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster (single rider) while one parent sits with the kids.
I don't know if you plan to park hop or not, but do not waste your FP= reservations for anything before like lunch time (except maybe at Magic Kingdom). If you plan it like that, you won't wait more than maybe 15/20 minutes for anything and still have your three FP+ left.
ETA - Fantasmic if great. If you can, try and book the Fantasmic Dining Package and plan to eat dinner about 5pm or so. It will have a reserved section for you in the arena so you don't have to line up 45 minutes before the show.

At Magic Kingdom, I hope you already have FP+ for Anna & Elsa, because if you don't you're screwed.
Because you won't be able to do things like Space, Splash, Thunder, Mine Train, Barnstormer it kinda opens you up. I'd still arrive early, but head straight to the Merida Meet & greet...probably one of the better ones and very interactive. After that, do some of the things that will build longer waits after 10 am..things like Peter Pan, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Pooh, etc. Make sure you see the festival of Fantasy Parade. It starts in Frontierland and I like to watch it near Pecos Bill. There are some areas with shade and instead of dealing with people lining up at 2 pm for a 3pm parade on main street, you can usually find a spot in Frontierland about 2:45 and get just as good (if not better view).
If you have some extra $, the wishes dessert party at the tomorrow terrace is nice. The food is blah, and it is overpriced like everything else, but it is cool to a private section with a photopass photographer.
Main Street Electrical Parade is another great usage of a FP+ if you choose not to do the dessert party. It has a perfect location for the parade and castle projection show afterwards, BUT the view for Wishes isn't the best. The castle actually blocks some of the fireworks.

Animal Kingdom is generally a later arriving park, but the new Lion King show is legit...arrive early to the park and knock out some key meet & greets early before lines build. Try to catch the 10am Festival of the Lion King, make sure to see the Nemo Musical (I hate it but my wife and daughter love it) so I usually go right next door and do Everest like 5 times on the single rider line while they watch the show.
One of the lesser known things to do at Animal Kingdom is Rafiki's Planet Watch. There is a seperate train that takes you out to the conservation station where there is a petting zoo (sheep, goats, etc) with brushes for the kids. Inside you can take pictures with Rafiki and often times that have live animals inside as well for the kids to see/touch. My 4 year old got to pet a baby alligator which she still talks about to this day..

Remember you can start to book that at midnight ET, not 6 am like dining.
So, if you live in La, thats 11 pm our time. I have been reading about some people seeing no availability for anna & elsa when they log on even at midnight, but I just booked mine for our September trip and had no issues.
