WASHINGTON — The United States has concluded that Russia violated a landmark arms control treaty by testing a prohibited ground-launched cruise missile, according to senior American officials, a finding that was conveyed by President Obama to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in a letter on Monday.

It is the most serious allegation of an arms control treaty violation that the Obama administration has leveled against Russia and adds another dispute to a relationship already burdened by tensions over the Kremlin’s support for separatists in Ukraine and its decision to grant asylum to Edward J. Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor.

At the heart of the issue is the 1987 treaty that bans American and Russian ground-launched ballistic or cruise missiles capable of flying 300 to 3,400 miles. That accord, which was signed by President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the Soviet leader, helped seal the end of the Cold War and has been regarded as a cornerstone of American-Russian arms control efforts.

Thank goodness Russia is not a threat to our country otherwise this would be troubling.

Yeah, that was the same guy that ran against our dear leader in the 2012 POTUS election that was effectively laughed off the state for the remarks being told he had no idea what he was speaking of.

The worst thing about Obama's ego (and politics in general) is that he can't simply admit "I was wrong. Romney was right."

Right now, we just need a president who's willing to give two shits about foreign policy, start some serious financial sanctions on Russian oligarchs, and bolster our allies in Eastern Europe with military weapons support and energy... not continue to plug his ears and pretend everything is fine.

I have no opinon on what should be done with Russia.

What bothers me is that this country has nothing that resembles a leader of any sort. Not a leader I disagree with mind you. No leader at all.

Jokes and Obama hating aside, this is a serious issue. Breaking the terms of a 25 year treaty on cruise missiles is not something to dismiss lightly.

It makes one wonder what Putin's end game is. I doubt he would send one our way for obvious reasons, but I think he is testing the waters to see what other European countries do. He wants the old USSR land back and he sees weak leadership in America and Europe. If nobody does anything of merit I think you'll see him really start to push forward into Ukraine and possibly other neighboring countries.

Russia can send an ICBM with multiple warheads to the US in 30 mins. And we're worried about this?

Russia's time is now.

Putin knows that the USA is weak and impotent right now with regard to the ability to confront and deter Russian ambition.

Europe is completely unwilling to stand up to Russia, and, the Obama Administration is absolutely incapable of building any kind of coalition of nations to take action against Russia.

The hits just keep coming. Reset button for Russia. "I'll have more flexibility after my election." Biden declaring that Iraq will prove to be this Administration's great foreign policy success story. Germany pissed at us for spying on them. On and on. The hits just keep on coming.

And we still have years to go !

KEEP VOTING DEMOCRAT, AMERICA !!

We are almost there !
