The comeback journey for OL Chris Faulk has ended, at least as a member of the Cleveland Browns. The team waived Faulk Monday morning after he had been active for the first two days of training camp.

Faulk tore two ligaments in his right knee at LSU in 2012, but was a pretty highly-touted prospect. He went undrafted, but the Browns had signed him last offseason. He was never able to participate in training camp, so the team placed him on injured reserve. It was believed that he was finally healthy, but I guess the new coaching staff preferred other linemen on the roster.

I know the LSU fans will like it, but he could be a nice backup option unless he is beyond repair, which I doubt

Yeah it wasn't a good decision to leave LSU when he did.

I say why not? Bring him in. If he can get healthy we may get a solid oLineman for nothing. If not, nothing lost.

Actually some people have been saying that Faulk is a poor fit for the zone blocking system so that might be why he was released.

Seems he's been healthy since the end of April:
quote:

Browns second-year OL Chris Faulk (knee) is fully healthy and has no limitations.

Faulk spent his rookie year "redshirting" on injured reserve after tearing his ACL and MCL in LSU's 2012 season opener. He's an imposing 6-foot-6 and 330 pounds but will start the 2014 practice season as a guard. A heavy-footed blocker, Faulk is unlikely to benefit from the Browns' hire of OC Kyle Shanahan, who prefers better movers on the offensive line.

It's too bad really. He would've greatly benefited from another year

i have no idea what he was told or what he was thinking. But he was a projected 1st round pick before the injury, come back another year and get your stock back up and improve.

really makes you wonder what goes through kids like faulk's minds. If he would have stayed one more year, Faulk would undoubtedly been drafted pretty high i'm sure.

I'm sure plenty of coaches were telling him this. I wonder what type of influences this kid has in his life and who he was listening to???

Hopefully, this serves as a lesson to other players in the same situation. Anthony Johnson could be the next one to see this fate....

No way. He sat out his rookie year on injured reserve. He didn't fully recover till after 2013. So it's very unlikely he could have done anything relevant for LSU in 2013. His stock would have dropped even more.

I hope he gets a shot with the Saints. Dude could be a beast at guard, maybe even RT.

I say bring him in for a tryout

No, because before the injury he was being projected as a starting left tackle in the NFL. If his leg isn't ruined he'd be a good project to groom for RT (replace Streif down the road), maybe more.

Exactly. The guy has talent. You literally have nothing to lose by giving him a tryout. If he doesn't pan out, you cut him after paying him barely more than nothing. If he does pan out, you get a steal on a potential starter. Let's face it. Cleveland is not exactly known for their wise personnel decisions. There could be something in him they missed.
