Hillary Says George W. Bush Made Her 'Proud to be American'

quote:

In an interview on CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" show, the potential 2016 presidential candidate implied that Bush had a longer-term view of international relations compared to President Barack Obama, and suggested the difference between the men was a focus on "headlines" versus "trend lines."

"Let's not forget the trend lines. George W. Bush is very popular in Sub-Saharan Africa. Why? Because of the president's emergency program for AIDS relief. Whether you agree or disagree with a lot of what else he did — and I disagree with a lot of it — I am proud to be an American when I go to Sub-Saharan Africa and people say, 'I want to thank President Bush and the United States for helping us fight HIV/AIDS.'"

Clinton also subtly criticized Obama's foreign policy, the Times noted.

"I think we would be able to succeed more effectively if we were clearer about who we are and what we stand for and the values that we hold," she said.

"We have to go back out and sell ourselves. It is not to be taken for granted. What do we stand for and how do we intend to lead and manage? How do we try to enlist the rest of the world in this struggle between cooperation and order and conflict and disorder which is really at the root of so much that's going on today — and I don't think we've done a very good job of that."

I think she is a 100% correct by the way. Even though it's a calculated jab.

Who formulated and ran his foreign policy?

Wonder if President Obama felt that knife...

ETA: To cover up the evidence.

Bush was more if a Wilsonian Progressive on foreign policy than Obama. If course Hill likes him better.

Maybe he constrained her. He is, according to many here, an emperor.

Time to start distancing herself from Obama. It's nothing personal, just politics.

Since the foreign policy is very much similar today as when HRC was Secretary, I imagine HRC was nothing more than a shell for the Presidents foreign policies.

I have no doubt that we will be a much stronger country internationally with Hillary than we are today, maybe not as much as W, but I get the impression that Hillary serious about a strong America internationally. Where the president thought we should apologize to every other country and follow their leads.

Didn't Hillary rack up record numbers of miles on her trips as she worked her arse off to further the Obama foreign policy agenda?

Now we find out she didn't agree, and never admired O?

Sheezam, I wonder what made her work so hard?

Theoretically, yes.

In practice, Obama undercut Clinton as soon as she accepted the job by putting Susan Rice in place as the UN ambassador and putting a number of duties normally belonging to SecState under Rice instead.

Advise yes, but at the end of the day she has to toe the line the President's sets. So she could disagree with every single policy the President has set but still it is her job to implement his policy.

I don't think we would do well internationally, not because she wouldn't be tough but because she is a woman.

Let's be honest, there are many cultures in the world who do not respect women at all and likely wouldn't take her seriously, especially places like the Middle East and Russia. Some Asian countries also.

I'm afraid that many leaders would ignore her or not take her seriously and that would lead to either failed diplomacy and a weak America, or she would drag us into war to prove herself.

Perception is probably more important in regards to foreign policy than the actual policies themselves. Obama's policies aren't terrible in regards to foreign policy, the problem is he isn't taken seriously and other leaders run all over him.

Wait, Hilary is now going to try and distance herself from Obama and his failed policies now that she wants to be president? Say it isn't so?!

Merkel, Meir and Thatcher didn't marry to climb the ladder. Hillary did.

Hillary conveniently looked the other way for political reasons.

I doubt she'd command much respect from world leaders, but I have been wrong before.

I could change my mind and "RESET" my opinion of her at a later date.

Didn't she bring the ridiculous "Reset Button" to Russia - a fact that should render her, de facto, ineligible to be Presidence because of evidence of potentially fatal naiveté - potentially fatal for all of us?

I think he forgot about them. Or does he believe they aren't/weren't taken seriously? It's not like she will be arm wrestling them for decisions. The might of the US is behind whomever represents them and all know that.

Right you are - and let's not forget our own Jeane Kirkpatrick - who would have made a better POTUS than the last 10 - possibly excepting Ronald Reagan.

This will come back to bite her in the election season. I'm sure the intention was good and maybe Barry jacked around too long with his foreign policy regarding the Ruskies - who knows.
