My wife has dropped the hammer since we are on the way with baby #2, that my 110# lab has to now live outside. She is tired of him shedding all the time even tho I trim him and have one of those automatic Roomba things sweeping daily. I kind of understand but that's still my boy we are talking about. I agreed and decided to bury an elect fence, I have this obsession of my dog only being in my yard, not tearing other peoples shite up. What are some ways to break it to him slowly so im just not throwing him out there. He stays out there most of the day, just he knows he sleeps inside at night. I have a small shed I can put his bed in, just know he will go ape shite the first couple of nights.

Damn dogs survived 1000's of years outside, and you are worried he may howl a few nights.

Yeah, the first mistake was making a 110 lbs. lab an inside dog.

haha, this is my partner in crime we are talkin about. telling my wife maybe she should move outside prob wasn't the best response to this. Prob not a big deal to most of you guys, but I'll figure it out. Reason I was asking is I've NEVER had an outside dog, owned Dobermans, boxers, and labs, were all inside, so this is new to me.

Ouch. You're in a predicament. First kid right? Fourth or fifth dog right?

Tell the wife that you're well trained in dog behavior and you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you're dog's feelings will be so hurt that he'd leave thereby depriving the new baby of a very special relationship with the pooch.

That's not an "obsession," it's responsible pet ownership. I had a neighbor's dog in my chickens the other day. Killed one and had the other in his mouth. I yelled but didn't stop him so I peppered his arse with a .410. He was about 35 yards away) Fugger dropped my hen whelping all the way back across the pasture and hasn't been back.

This is why we have an ob. Imagine posting this on any other board. You'd have posters ridiculing you and trying to find out your identity so they could call the law. I'm sitting here just thinking about how good of friends you and I would be after this story.

Ive already shot one of the neighbors dogs for tearing my trash and shite under my carport. the other neighbors dog was on the list for attacking my lab a while back. I think he got the hint bc he doesn't even attempt to cross the property line now.... maybe that loud blast from the last dog did the trick

You have to find a way to convince your wife the dog being inside is better for the children. Start researching!

I was sure it would only sting him and not kill it. I've done it with labs that break. It works wonders.

I'd never shoot a neighbor's dog to kill. Other than the obvious, whatchu do with the carcus? They make poison for that.

It would be easier to teach a dog to wipe his own arse than to convince a woman of something like this, once she's got it in that head.

Do hyou have a garage or some sort if shelter in which you could crate him? Definitely will need heartworm preventative and a well built sturdy kennel if no garage. I've got four dogs in my garage. They do fine. Window unit and crate for each dog. No problems with them. They stay in a kennel all day and are out only when I'm outside.

I'm with you, and taking a dog that has been used to being inside and putting them out is tough. Make sure he has good shelter and a nice comfy bed.
