In the past we have been a smash mouth team that would grind out teams and finish them off in the second half. Ball control, minimize mistakes, and rely on a suffocating defense to provide good field position.

With Cam Cameron on board, we appear to be moving to a quick strike offense with better athletes and schemes than the majority of our opponents. Mobile qb's, 5 star backs, and wide receivers that dont appear to need a redshirt year to big ready for prime time.

With the addition of Jeff Grimes, I think the last piece of the puzzle has been set. If we can keep this core of offensive coaches for a while, I believe we will be better known for our offensive exploits more than our relentless defenses. I love some defense but this will be a welcomed change. Its going to be fun to watch our offense for the foreseeable future.

Any thoughts to add on the subject?

I don't think it's changing. It will always be primarily smashmouth as long as CLM is here.

I think it's just that smashmouth works a lot better with legit WR and mobile QB threats to take defenders out of the box.

LSU will always be a smash mouth team as long as Miles is here. Cameron has said as much.

LSU is going to run the ball a ton this year.
I'd put the over/under pass attempts against Wisconsin at 20.

I agree that we will run it alot this year out of necessity. Once our guys have the experience, I think we will run it in a different way. Not as much fullback usage, more exotic formations, and more running with qb. Grimes knows how to coach up an oline to block a read zone scheme and we will implement a variation of that with a more physical influence. Just my opinion though.

The only thing I am afraid of is being so effective on offense that we tire defense. If the D is not getting their time on the bench then I am afraid that a late game 3 and out by our offense could be trouble for our tired D. On the other hand, Cam seems to know all about offensive game management and Chief is great at player rotation in games, so maybe I'm worried for no reason.

To that point, it will never stop bugging me that we wasted Jarvis Landry's freshman year on special teams. I think that he could have been a huge asset in the 2011 season. Especially on January 9th.

Yeah it's not like our offense overshadowed our defense last year or anything.

He was talking about over the next few years, not this year.

Idiot.

We used Landry on jan 9th. He was open late in the game and would have scored but was over thrown by Jefferson. No receiver could have had a great game that day

No shite. And if you believe that LSU will ever become known as an offensive juggernaut under Les, with that offense overshadowing our great defense, then you and he are both idiots.

Overshadowed? Not by statistical rankings. The LSU Defense was ranked higher in total defense (15) and scoring defense (21) than the the LSU offense was ranked in total offense (35) and scoring offense (23). Idiot.

These same exact things could have been said in '09, '10, '11. LSU was more "open" last season because they had a Sr. QB and two proven top flight WRs. The best offense is the one that best fits your personnel. Last year the passing game clicked because of those skill guys. This year it looks like LSU is better suited to have a power ground game. As long as Les Miles is here LSU is going to be dedicated to running the football.

We better be smash mouth with the Oline we have and the great backs we have. Qb is young and also wr corp.
pound that thing 40-50 times.
Pass it maybe 15.
It's what we do. Pound and wear down teams. And play good D.
Great football

Eh. We've pretty much always had better athletes than most of our opponents. That hasn't changed.

We will still be about this. Especially this year.

We were definitely a fantastic offense last year, but look at the players we had. Hopefully this will continue for the foreseeable future with the talent we have locked in on that side of the ball.

To a degree but Cam has always run the rock effectively. It's his bread-and-butter too.

Didn't jeremy hill have like 16 rushing touchdowns last year in 10 games?

Magee had 8
Hilliard had around the same
Blue had 2-4ish

If you think LSU's losing their identity as a run first team, you'll change your mind when this season comes around.

Did you actually watch any of our games? Tell me which unit was more effective and kept us in more games. Those stats are horribly misleading. But, continue to cherry pick stats to fuel your anti-Miles BS if you so desire. I know it's your thing.

I think that Les is a very smart man. Because he is smart he has let CC have a lot more control of the offense and seems to be letting Cam recruit the kind of players he wants for his vision of what we will be. In the past, Les has usually recruited a dual threat and pocket passer in the same class or one after the other. Not the case since Cam has been here. Its been all mobile qbs. Also, our offense was great last year but CC didnt have the players he chose. He worked with what he had and did a damn fine job with it. We wont go 5 wide shotgun for 4 quarters but the offense will look different and our reputation will somewhat change because of it. Not that we wont be good on defense but people will talk more about the offense because it has not been worth mentioning as much in the past.
