Report: Obama sends team to consider deploying Guard

Considering following Perry's lead?
President Obama has dispatched a team to Texas to review whether deploying National Guard troops could help the crisis at the border, White House officials told Reuters on Wednesday.
The team consists of officials from the Defense Department and the Department of Homeland Security. Reuters reported they left on Tuesday and will be on the ground at the border on Thursday.
A White House official told Reuters that Obama directed Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to send the team to the border to conduct their evaluations and submit recommendations to the administration.
Until now, the administration had opposed Republicans’ suggestions to send the National Guard to the border. In a meeting with Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) a few weeks ago, however, Reuters reported that Obama said he was possibly open to a deployment as a temporary fix.

What actually has been done to stem the flow and handle this clearly FNC generated crisis? Anything at all?
Never thought I'd see the day when Barry takes a play out of Perry's playbook

This is what I hear:
"He appointed a secretary to review the applicants for a committee who will consider the idea of sending guards to the border?"

Perhaps he'll hear about his preventative actions in tomorrow's paper?

He should send them to all gulf ports---you know, like Jacksonville and Savannah

Presidents during a crisis
You do know that Reagan was in the middle of a month long vacation when the soviets shot down the US Boeing plane, and he had to be persuaded by his staff to come back to Washington to give his speech 4 days later?
This is not unique to Obama.
And as for deploying the guard, either Obama has done this once before, or it was Bush, so there is a precedent.

Can someone tell me why a state needs approval from the federal executive branch to deploy their NG? Or am I misunderstanding?

They don't. But it cost a lot of money. If the federal government activates the guard the FEDGOV pays for it.

Sounds like Kathleen Blanco's response to every damn thing during her administration, except her trade mission to Cuba.

So, if Obama sends the guard, instead of Perry....does that mean that Obama runs the show? I.e., Obama can then order the Guard to move back from the Border 50 miles, like he did the Border Guard? Bottom line...border remains open?
Ignore Obama's (supposed) INTENTIONS...judge him by his RESULTS.

from January 2009 to October 31, 2012, Obama spent all or part of 72 vacation days in a variety of places, mostly Hawaii in the winter and Martha's Vineyard in the summer. That's about 10 weeks away in three-and-a-half years, hardly extravagant. Through May 18, according to data from CBS's Knoller, he also visited Camp David 22 times, spending all of part of 54 days there.
What about his predecessors?
· In 1798, President John Adams left the capital for seven months to care for his ailing wife Abigail; his enemies said he practically relinquished his office.
· Thomas Jefferson and James Madison routinely went away for three- and four-month stretches.
· Abraham Lincoln, during the Civil War, was blasted for spending about 25 percent of his time away from the White House.
· Dwight Eisenhower took long summer breaks in Denver and spent almost every single weekend at Camp David.
· John F. Kennedy rarely spent a weekend in the White House, staying at family homes in Palm Beach, Hyannis Port, and the Virginia countryside.
· Lyndon Johnson spent 484 days in five and a half years at his Texas ranch.
· Ronald Reagan was away for 436 days, usually at Rancho del Cielo (his mountaintop retreat in California) or Camp David.
· Bill Clinton, who didn't own a vacation home, loved to party with his elite friends in Martha's Vineyard and the Hamptons.
· George W. Bush spent 32 months at his ranch (490 days) or Camp David (487 days) — an average of four months away every year.

Well they have been acquiring property rights, etc. for the wall-started back in Bush era. I have no idea if it they still have that mission or if they completed it. Doubt a wall would work anyway.

Why are you posting about vacations when the cartoon shows him playing golf. Think of it as a metaphor for Obama's being detached and ineffective. You could argue about whether the ineffectiveness is intentional or not.
Oh and your jimmies. They're rustled.
