and I am happy as hell about it. Now my mom and family doesn't have to pay $15 for generic prescriptions and $9 for a box of rice.

ETA: or drive 45 miles to the nearest wal mart.

$15 for generic scrips isn't a bad deal. What does Wal-Mart offer to decrease this cost?

It is when you are an older person with multiple prescriptions every month.

well for one it doesn't arse rape its customers (just its employees). IDK I am not a business major with knowledge of Wal Marts business model.

Not my family, my mom saw that and said that was crazy and stopped shopping there unless it was just for one or 2 items and not worth driving 45 min to walmart. However the EBT cardholders do.

The name brand was $8.85 (Minute) IIRC so basically $9. They were sold out of the generic brand.

ETA: It was 42oz box of rice, its right at $5 at Wal mart.

In all fairness, how much do you think this script should be? I'm what you would consider middle income. Both my wife and I have college degrees, good jobs with excellent benefits, and such. I picked up a generic script of hers the other day and the cost was $.86. I don't ever carry cash and didn't have change and had to buy a few more things because I refused to put $.86 on my debit card. I was appalled that the script was that cost because it only meant that someone else's cost was higher to pay for this when I have the means to pay $15 for a script. I'd pay $15 per generic all day long every day of the week if it meant no ACA and no corruption in the industry.

I'm an informed conservative voter that wants to pay my fair share and don't think someone else should pay for my part, if that matters at all.

not $15. I pay around $5 @ Walgreens, it has been awhile since I got one so I could be mistaken.

NELA, small town (5-7K in the town, 10-12K in the parish). 2 grocery stores well more like 1.5. 3 drug stores and each one is a joke. It is a classic case of a few store owners sticking it to the ppl. I am happy about the wal mart because I hope the competition makes them improve.

The WM Express stores will put your small business owners out of business. Is this Union or Richland Parish?

WM is now in a full court press to put an Express store beside every Dollar General, Fred's, etc store to capture the rural America market and force the others out of business. They will be popping up everywhere going forward. Most of the stores will also have a fuel center that will also put your local gas station owner out of business. Those $15 generics will be worth every dime after the local relationship flair is gone, IMO.

our local stores lost their flair about a hear and half ago. The neighborhood around them went to crap even more than it was. Most of the middle class and rich ppl quit shopping there because of the unsafe neighborhood. If you shop there after dark they have an armed guard escort you to your car. So the grocery store raised its prices and lowered its quality of service, no more bag boys that carried out and loaded your car for you, and decreased the quality of food (it makes wal marts produce and meat selection look good). The EBT/ foodstamps crowd still shops there because they don't care it is easier than driving.

No it's not. They just don't have the buying power, efficiencies and logistics capabilities of a humongous chain. WalMart coming to town is a mixed blessing though, hopefully it works out well for your home town.

More likely the Wal-Mart will put the locals out of business as they can't compete with Wal-Mart's buying power. It's happened all over America.

Wal-Mart, despite it's bad rep, pays decently. My friend who worked at Wal-Mart back in high school made $10/hour, while I (working at Rite Aid) only got a raise because of the minimum wage hike.

Thank goodness I didn't need money.
