Stayed in a nice hotel there when I was young. Puked all over the room. I'll try to remember where that was.

i have stayed at about 50 places all over san fran. I really like the westin on union square. The rooms are really good and bourbon steak is freaking awesome. The W is also pretty good. Four seasons is sweet too.

if you want nice, you are best staying near moscone. It will be far from most of the sites but union square and the embarcadero but the hotels outisde this area are mostly tourist class.

Stayed at the four seasons last year. Great location and I remember that it was $200 per night cheaper than the mandarin.

Fairmont Hotel is great.
I used to stay at the San Fran Marriott as well very nice with a restaurant on top. Got accosted by panhandlers though every trine I went outside.
Marriott Fishermans Wharf is ok not luxury but close to all the wharf action.

Don't think it's five star, but my bro likes the Triton. It has some whacked out decor and I think caters to hipsters or something. I've stayed at Westin St. Francis and it's pretty solid.

We stayed at the Hotel Vertigo for our honeymoon. Wasn't 5 stars, but it was nice, funky and the price was good.
