Is this movie supposed to show how a code-breaking device somehow won WW2, though? Never heard of it.

seriously? Germany was on the verge of starving the UK with the U Boats wreaking havoc on maritime trade. The UK had no way of knowing where the submarines were or what their targets were and assigning a convoy to each cargo ship would have cost them even more resources. Luckily for the allies, the Germans gave orders to the uboats from land and thus were able to intercept orders constantly...but it was in this indecipherable code.
The war very well could have been over by 1941 or 1942 if not for the code being cracked.
The codes also helped turn around the war in North Africa when the allies were able to track the movement of the Rommel's panzers.
