Looking to buy either a 9mm or .40 to do some serious range shooting. I want something that consistently has great accuracy and is a great overall piece. Price range is up to about $1,000.. Thoughts?

Are you a great shot? Most pistols will be more accurate than their owners...

I'm a good shot.. Great shot has yet to be proven.. However, I only own a springfield xdm 9mm compact and a .380 bodyguard. I'm good with both of them. I just want to step up to the next level with a known-for-accuracy piece that I can really practice with.

Ruger SR series
About $450 and a fantastic gun
Comes in 9mm, .40, and .45ACP
Plus, it's American made

I've heard this from so many people, and it's cheap. If OP is willing to spend a grand, though, I suggest a bigger gun like an H&K or Glock.

1911.
Ruger SR1911 or Springfield Armory.

Btw, how's the trigger on that thing?

This is the truth. A 1" group at 15 yds is no problem for MOST decent pistols
Probably aren't many shooters that can free hand that, I can't.
Are you target shooting? Personal Defense? Plinking?

OP said he wants to do some serious range shooting.

Yeah this is going to be mostly target shooting..

AR-24 if you can find one. Under $400, adjustable sights, all forged steel.

Have you seen anything you like?

I've looked at the Springfield 1911 Range Officer in person.. Nice gun... Just havent fired one... The SR1911 is a fine looking gun as well.

Serious range shooting in 9mm, only one answer.

Not bad for a $290 truck gun, night sights as well, I really like it, I shoot it more at the range than my others, and don't worry as much about it being stolen from my truck due to cost.

Yeah, it's a great pistol for the price.

Glock 34 with aftermarket sights and trigger can be had for less than $1k if you want to stay with 9mm.

Sig 210. If you look around, you can find a used one in decent condition for just over a grand.
