He is nuttier than a squirrel turd. I would be far more concerned with my cell phone being used for surveillance than my Fire TV

Thought he was nuts too but has anyone disproved his central point?

I mean, it just seems a hell of a lot easier and more rewarding/successful to do this through your cell phone.

Don't be naive...it will start slowly. Some hotshot (smart) lawyer will subpoena Amazon for a recording that may have been picked up during a crime and the gates will be open.

Amazon could simply put a line in their terms that says under NO circumstances will your information be shared without your written consent....they won't do that. None of these companies will.

The voice recognition only works if you hold the remote pretty close to your mouth. If you walk around talking into the remote all day then you deserve to be spied on.

And there you have it: the Fire TV device was engineered from the start to record your voice, upload it to Amazon's servers -- now being expanded to the CIA -- and link those voice recordings to your identity.

So was the iPhone and Android phones. Voice navigation/assistance is a cloud based service. Regarding the CIA, Amazon is one of the leading cloud storage/platform providers, it's not surprising that they'd use Amazon. And if the CIA wanted access to Amazon's records I doubt they'd need to be a customer to make it happen.

How hard would it be for Fire TV devices to monitor and upload your conversations 24/7?

It's not about how hard it would be, it's about how expensive it would be. Who's footing the bill for recording and processing all of this noise? Could I see a "person of interest" being tracked like this? Yes. But to do this with everyone that owns a voice capable device seems pretty infeasible right now.

He is nuts in the sense that he's acting as if what we have now is a current threat, this is Big Brother as an infant. But I've been saying for years we aren't just going to welcome Big Brother into our lives with open arms, we're going to pay him to stay. That's what we're seeing. The technology advance is not going to be stopped, what needs to be changed is our laws to make sure there is transparency and oversight into which government agents have access to the system.
