Alright OB, I need some help on this one. I am trying to design a blind for the Cuda 14 I suspect I'll be duck hunting from this year. Here is what I have so far:

The rear portion can be rigid and locked in place so I plan on using conduit and paracord and laying some camo material and fast grass on top of the paracarod and conduit. That's the easy part.

However, I can't seem to wrap my mind around a way to blind in the front half. I need something that'll help break up my profile with some height on it but also something that won't keep me from quickly raising and firing my gun when needed. What ideas do yall have in mind?

ETA: The scale is only applicable if printed to full size, 8.5x11

What is the half circle object that is floating above the seat?

Hah. Probably not. After I kill a few birds it seems to get bigger...

A real engineer would've used graph paper.

I have always wondered why people in boat blinds didn't use camo netting going out in the water. Put a float under the corners and a line with a weight for an anchor. Throw the line and weight out and make the blind look like a floating mat of grass...

I am definitely interested in this idea and how it goes. Keep us posted on the progress.

ETA: good idea Wick

Why not just use a lay down blind inside it and fast grass around and on top?

Just get a big square blind brushing sheet at academy. I got one and cut a hole for me to sit in. Just lay it over the yak and it's almost like a skirt used for white water yaking.

This is a link (mobile) to the one I have. LINK

Fish, I'm having trouble figuring out what you're talking about. I can't put anything inside it since it is a sit on top kayak.

JB: That material would do little to break up my outline/silhouette. You don't think that would be an issue?

What's more embarrassing than a yak?

A yak with a home made pop up blind hiding a sugar arse...

You're going to question my duck blind?? C'mon man... wish I had pictures of out ridiculous get-up from Toledo last year. Still shake my head thinking about killing teal in a bass boat.

But you killed...

I'm just messing with you...

The real answer to your question, is yak out to your spot, build a lean to brush blind and go hide the yak, only use it to retrieve your birds.

That worked early season, but public land gets hammered from the shoreline so we frequently had birds landing off the shore 100+ yards by mid to late season. I was hoping to get some shots at the wary fowl who aren't used to getting peppered in the middle of the lake.

I would think of it similar to a layout blind, where you would have "doors" on hinges that rest on top of you, and you can push them open to shoot. The doors would fall down to each side and you'd be wide open to swing and shoot. Add some type of elastic straps/cords to the outside of the doors and you could cut some cane or brush or whatever before you hunt and slide it in there for cover.
