Yes, stop watching. You'll be disappointed.

I liked it. The stupidity of the characters made it kinda funny.

It's different and weird but if you accept it for what it is you will enjoy it. That's most people's problem with movies. Can't accept it for what it is and go with it

I thought it was a solid movie, was a little different but I found it funny at several parts. Wahlberg was good for a crazy person and probably some of the best acting The Rock has done.

The most bizarre thing about the movie is that it's a true story.

I need to get that book.

well the movie kind of wants you to root for two guys who were huge psychopathic douche bags.

usually that gets a bit odd.

My thoughts exactly. It was much more interesting than I expected and the Rock turned in a good performance.

I thought the movie was okay, not much of a fan. I do agree that the Rock was really good in it. He has surprised me as an actor as a few times.

The thing that made me actually hate the movie is:

The most bizarre thing about the movie is that it's a true story.

I was curious and looked up some info afterwards and what the filmmakers did here was reprehensible. They didn't change a few details. They turned a victim into an absolute shithead (changed his name to avoid being sued, which they were anyway). They also made a group of psychopaths into a funny, goofy band of characters who the audience is asked to identify with. I would never say the movie made them likable but it did seem to have a lot more sympathy for these guys than the victim (who by the way, was kidnapped and tortured for a month). Read some of these details:

Google 'pain and gain true story' if interested in more. Michael Bay and the studio are probably lucky this wasn't a success.

I agree they shouldn't have played it up as a true story but I wouldn't call it reprehensible. Should've just given it a generic "based on a true story" instead of literally pausing mid-film to say this is a true story.

Global box office more than tripled the budget.

That really has nothing to do with my point. This isn't a case where they embellished details of a story to make it more interesting, as many movies do. They actively changed details to make you identify with guys who tortured and murdered people by making them comic buffoons. It is like how people accuse Rudy of making up everything about the main character, except even those with the worst to say about that actual guy never said he never murdered anyone.

Huh what? Never once did I feel sympathy for the protagonists. Not once. It was clear they were completely delusional.

I thought it was one of the few films about bad people that didn't paint them as likable. The entire film is a farce, and is, strangely, smarter than your average Bay film.

I agree with this, the bodybuilders' delusion made me uncomfortable, but in a way that added to my enjoyment of the movie.

As for people saying Tony Shaloub's character, the victim, was portrayed as an a-hole- I thought he was portrayed as a an OT-level baller.
