You certainly can. They also have a bridge on Hwy 1 by Bridgeside Marina that a lot of folks fish from at night.

There are a couple of bars on the island, a few restaurants, one grocery store, and a state park. The closest Wal-Mart is in Golden Meadow, which is about 30 minutes north.

And that store is expensive as hell. Bring what you can from your house.

For crabs use turkey necks, chicken gizzards, or fish hulls.

We used to go down there for a four day weekend with a family friend that owns five cabins on the island. The first day we would catch fish, clean them, then set out a dozen or so crab traps with the hulls in them. We would fish the next two days and have a big shrimp and crab boil the last evening we were there. Real good times with my dad and his buddies when I was growing up.

Get a blood transfusion before you go, that way you have some left when you get home. The mosquitoes are brutal...
