That sucks man. Marker has probably soaked in pretty good.
I've used peroxide soaked paper towels semi-successfully before. Just lay a good bunch of layers on it and leave it for a while. Most of the marker should come out. You'll still have to sand it a bit with some 220 sand paper.
If you can get it out, sand all the planks and coat them with some heavy coats of urethane. It will make removing future "artists" scrawls a bit easier.
Good luck

From my cabinet shop years: Laquer thinner from a hardware store will definitely take it out, but will leave the wood dry and lighten since the rest of the wood in that picture looks slightly weathered. It will raise the grain of the wood, so sand lightly (180 grit). Apply a good urethane to seal everything up. For the most U.V. and graffiti resistant finish, spray the whole bench w an automotive urethane clear coat.

They make a spray specifically for removing graffiti and spray paint. I used it on brick and it did pretty welll i suggest doing that then pressure washing would do pretty well.

Drive down Claiborne from Elysian Fields to the canal and you'd be amazed at the amount of graffiti. To be honest, I think most of that is hipsters though
