I have done some googling and craiglisting and haven't been able to find any useful info. I've seen go to such and such store and get there packing foam , but I want the solid blocks of styrofoam like you put under a floating dock.

Anybody have a source?

Just big blocks of Styrofoam not targets from a store.

Walmart and Amazon have the styrofoam for floral arrangements.

Doctors offices and labs get lots and lots of cold shipments that come in really thick foam containers. Free usually

I have shot straight through styrofoam blocks after they start to get worn down. and when I tried to spray paint a target on them the spray paint just ate away at it even more.

Styrofoam and round bales both suck as bow targets. No way I would use either.

they make spray paint that won't eat through. I forgotten the brand. probably have some at craft stores.

I have a big block I got from an archery shop several years ago. they were out towards Central or somewhere. call all the shops and see who has them.

If you know anybody in the pipeline business.....

if you are looking for targets for young kids to shoot with field tip wooden arrows from 20 lb draw bows. Styrofoam is the way to go.

if you are entering the field of adult bow hunting then get real bow target.

I have shot square bales and they work fine for 50 or so shots

^ This.

My bow will laugh at a Styrofoam target. Its dangerous and will damage your fletching.

It's going to be mostly for youth, but some of the youth will have >20lb bows. I've got an idea to sandwich some square bales and see if that's hold up.

Not trying to tell you one way or another, but why not just spend the $80 on a real bow target?

I usually find some big stryofoam blocks running the river in my boat. They always worked great for me.

from the sounds of it, seems like he is trying to devise a way to make multiple targets for multiple youth at a camp type situation or something. admirable.

Bale of cotton is hard to beat. I'm not sure what one would cost these days but if you keep it off the ground and put a cover over it, lasts for years

In that case go get the coolers I mentioned above. If you call a few clinics by next Friday you could easily have 30 to 40. They vary in size and shape but most are roughly cubes and usually 12-16" per side. They are made of very thick 2-3" high density Styrofoam. They will stop arrows. They stop arrows from my Monster that are producing greater than 90 ftlb of energy on impact.

You will have lots of trouble getting arrows out the foam if the bows are high draw weight though. So get an arrow puller and a pack of extra field tips and some superglue.

The biggest bonus is they are light, easily movable, and weather resistant. If wind is a problem you can always fill them with some sand/dirt. For the heavy draw weight bows you may want to fill a couple of the coolers with broken busted up pieces of other coolers and some spray foam to make them more dense.
