How the GOP should treat gay marriage in 2016

There is little doubt in my mind the way for the GOP nominee to make up ground on the gay marriage issue in 2016 is to take the position that he/she has no position. If asked the question the answer should be along the lines of " it is my opinion that gay marriage is a states rights issue per the constitution and there is no need for the big, overreaching federal govt to be involved in the issue"
Does anyone really think not coming out full bore against gay marriage would stop a hard right winger from voting for a republican over Hilary? I don't think there's a chance in hell
Certainly don't come out for gay marriage just don't say you are against it either leave it up to the states, it would score points with independents who support state's rights and certainly couldn't hurt with the gay community
Oh and do the Same for pot
Just my 2 cents

I'm so tired of this being a national issue.
frick whoever you want, just leave me out of it.

Should be the proper response for 90% of the issues

debate moderator: Mr. GOP Nominee what is your position on same-sex marriage?
GOP Nominee: I give 0 fricks about it, take to a state level.

It's a losing issue for republicans that is only going to become more of a loser going forward, there is no doubt
But they are to stubborn to change. If they were a football coach they would still be running the wishbone

Nope.
Maybe at one time. But now, the radical gay movement is an "if you're not for me, you're against me" bunch.

You won't garner the poop chute vote with that answer.

Well you can continue to push for it to be illegal at every level and gain 0 votes or you can take the position I advocate and open the possibility of gaining some
Your choice

Of course you won't, but I think you would get additional votes without losing a single one
How is that not a positive?

ok, so what about tax implications at the federal level. should a couple in Alabama, married in Iowa, receive federal tax breaks?

The best thing to do is go states rights then immediately pivot to economic issues. Quick, simple, concise, positive messaging that's 100% on the economy and growth.

Make some shite up idc, it's not like the democrats trifle with trivial details such as this
IMO just treat it as it's treated now, it's the sound bite that counts

Call the dems on the issue and raise them polygamy.

so you're saying the republican nominee for president should advocate the removal of tax breaks for every married person in the US? I can't think of a better way to attract undecided voters than to removing advantages to filing jointly
