Seiko doesn't get enough credit because they're a Japanese company (vice Swiss). From what I've read online, they've been turning out some good pieces.

Part of me really, really wants a Grand Seiko.

Another part doesn't want to spend $7k for a watch that is part of a brand that also sells $30 watches. That is Seiko's issue IMO.

That looks like a good size. I wouldn't own one without the date on the face though.

I like them simple, but the date is a requirement

OP, if you are considering a dive / tool watch at all it is really hard to find something of higher quality than a Marathon in your price range. The metal work is comparable to much more expensive watches.

Why does the knob stick out so far though?

So it is easily accessible with gloves on. Used for diving and also in the military.

Nice looking watch, and very reasonable for a Rolex (I should add here that Rolexes are obscenely overpriced), but I believe the Air Kings are Quartz [turns nose up].

J/k. I gave one a hard look. Automatic watches can be a real pain in the arse if you own more than one or two.

I can understand thinking that from looking at the picture, but I have a larger version of the same watch (JSAR II) and it is very comfortable. Haven't had any problems.

If you have ever thought about something like a Luminox, go with the Marathon instead. I have both and the Marathon quality is much higher than the Luminox.

I've thought about lots of expensive things

I'll never buy a watch that expensive. I'm just in this thread because I like them. I loose them in the river and scratch them all to hell and other dumb shite like that. I do good to get more than a year outta one.

The Seiko Ananta and Grands are amazing timepieces that are great values in terms of bang for your buck. Your point is well taken but I think the Japanese luxury watches are gaining a lot of acceptance and respect from the hardcore watch fans. Distinctive style, comparable or superior quality, less maintenance and better value seems to be a winning formula.

This. At least it does more than tell time.

I'll never understand why men buy expensive watches... it's a damn watch.

I'll second any of the Marathon divers.

My husband has this one and I've been trying to get him to wear something a little less obnoxious.

A good watch won't come off unless you intend to take it off, because it'll be double-clasped.

A good watch won't get scratched to hell because it'll be sapphire crystal.

They're expensive for a reason.
