This is a major step. Banks have avoided dealing with marijuana businesses running legal operations in states where it is legal, for fear of federal penalties. US HoR passively supporting banks that want to work with legal weed shops.

And they did so without exactly saying banks could openly and without worry work with the industry — what banks have asked for in writing — and without decriminalizing the drug at the federal level.
Small steps I guess.
ETA: See, as i read more I saw this:

The move comes on the heels of another bill, H.R. 5106, which passed in May to restrict the U.S. Department of Justice and the Drug Enforcement Administration from meddling with state-approved medical marijuana programs.
Now THAT is a big step.

I don't smoke weed, or do any drugs. It's not worth losing my job over. I do support the full legalization of marijuana though. It's common sense to me.
I feel like we may see full federal legalization and taxation of it within the next 10 years.

So it's beyond a shadow of a doubt this will become law very soon, right? I mean, the morality police of the republican party control the house, so those progressives in the senate and the white house are sure to pass this through with ease.

democrats are against legalizing weed as much as republicans.

Don't tell me you're not on a different board talking about how the Republican party is dying because they won't legalize weed, among other things.

a) I don't think the republican party is dead, i just think its got structural problems for national elections
b) I don't think legalizing weed is going to help either party. its a good policy but from a electoral perspective, I don't see this playing well with either party.
