The "Executive Officer" of the College Football Playoff is on right now explaining and showing how the selection process would work.

So far the best highlight of what he said was that the #1 team in the Top 4 will be put in the semi-final game closest to them so they can have the friendliest crowd.

LSU made the example as the #4 of the Top 4 and in his example scenario we played #1 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl in the first Semi-Final Game...playing the winner of #2 Florida and #3 Michigan who play in the Sugar Bowl Semi-Final...

good stuff. I'm excited about this whole playoff thing.

So Pasadena is closer to both Columbus and Baton Rouge than New Orleans? Interesting.

In that scenario Ohio State was ranked #1 and the two Semi-Final sites were the Rose and Sugar Bowls and instead of benefiting us as the #4 team, the #1 team earns the better site to Pasadena got the nod for the game...its all hypothetical till the shite actually happens...

He went on to add an example for the next year that had #1LSU playing #4 Stanford in the Cotton Bowl.

Are they still using selection committee to choose the final four teams?

yeah. no computers, just the 13 individuals who are on the committee...they also mentioned a policy for members who have to recuse themselves when a team/school that they played for or receive compensation from is part of the discussion.

This is where i think the system is tainted...IMO they should use the same way they ranked the last what 18 years or so and just take the top 4 teams...i think there should be a computer involved some where in it.

The big question is how closely the four-team field will mirror the AP and Coaches Polls.

Don't get me wrong I like the playoff format and think it is long overdue but somewhere along the way some people are going to end up pissed about who ends up in the thing.
