Jonathan Turley, a professor at George Washington University, will say President Obama is trampling the founders’ vision for the country in his push to circumvent Congress, and he will demand Republicans and Democrats alike forget their party labels to unify against this White House’s power grab.

Turley is concerned about Obama setting an executive office overreach precedent. He doesn't want a future GOP president to abuse the office and separation of powers the same way Obama is. He may be okay now with Obama's abuses because Turley is a liberal and generally agrees with Obama's policies, however he is very concerned about the consequences of a GOP presidential ideolog akin to Obama.

I'm watching the hearing right now. Really interesting stuff coming from an Obama voter.

I hope the next Rep pres abuses EOs so badly that an amendment is passed requiring all EOs be reviewed by the Supreme Ct for legality before they are enacted.... or at least something similar.

No. I'm ok with placing limitations because there too many ways around separation of powers but I don't want ANY other president going nuts with EO's.

I'm a libertarian and I really like Turley.

He usually calls it like it is. I don't agree with him all the time but unlike most of the libs here, his arguments are fact based without much emotion.

This. And he's correct. It's a terrible precedent. And, yes, we should fear a GOP president abusing it just as much as a DIM president abusing it.

It's bad for the country.

Yep. And believe me... It doesn't matter who's in the White House, they will push the limits like Obama has going forward unless someone stops it.

I hate the fact that the GOP has to sue (because they are fricking spineless) but it seems quite apropos.

If you haven't, take a few minutes to read his blog at https://jonathanturley.org/

It's really fascinating stuff. That is, unless you hate civil liberties or love Obama without fail. Remember, this man voted for him...

I watched most of this hearing and this is going to completely backfire on Republicans. Turley got ripped to shreds by two older men who cited precedents and the constitution.

The way Obama delayed the mandate and altered part of the ACA is well within the law, and ironically, similar actions were taken by Bush in 2006 in his Medicare Modernization Act.

The hearing was pretty eye-opening.

Great, so its OK when the a conservative president outlaws abortions, restricts gay marriage, outlaws marijuana, bans gambling, institutes voter ID, etc etc etc, with a stroke of a pen, just because Bush and Obama did it before them

Pretty much makes having Senators, Congressmen, and judges pretty meaningless, doncha think?

I think Boehner's a bitch. He doesn't need the courts to fight Obama. He's just too big a pussy to do it himself.

So you're saying Congress has had no power over the implementation of Obamacare? Yes, there are 3 co-equal branches of government. Boehner has done nothing within his power, and is now leaving it up to the Courts. He has plenty of tools to combat the law while things get hashed out in court. In the meantime, we all have to suffer the consequences.
