Dude admits to grooving a fastball to him in the 1st. If true, it's a disgrace to Jeter. If false, it is a complete bitch move to discount his awful showing.

No
Because it's not an issue, it's the All Star, the first few innings don't count.
Who cares? It was the 2nd pitch at bat. It ain't like he was going to hit a 6 run homer.

Well it was the beginning of a 3-run inning in a game that the NL lost by 2. If I'm any NL contender, I'm pretty upset with Wainwright.

I think jeter told the catcher that he didn't like sliders before the first pitch. Then he congratulated the catcher for being an all star.

Dude people getting grooved pitches out of respect is not a new thing in the All-Star game at all, in fact it would be more of an insult to not give him a few good pitches to hit.
He shouldn't have said anything about it, but then again, Jeter is so old all he can do is hit a grooved fastball to the opposite field down the line now.

How many people get in an uproar when a NBA all star hits a wide open 12ft jump shot?
Or when Gretzky scored two 'groove' goals in his last all star game, or when an NFL receiver catches a wide open 30 yd pass?

National League should have tried a little harder through out the rest of the game.

No reason you should be.

No uproar because he made it clear that he said it in jest, and that his comment was tweeted otherwise.

This is a non-issue.

Not the case on sports radio this morning, but I digress.

Whether you're for or against the All-Star game deciding home field, grooving someone a pitch when the game has meaning is asinine and disrespectful, particularly to a guy like Jeter. I know he was a pro about it, but I can't imagine he appreciates someone taking it easy on him.

I heard the entire comment from Wainwright, and I find it difficult to believe it was in jest. It wasn't a simple joke to the press IMO.

The cardinals hate on this board is pretty sad. I get a few posters make it easy, but everyone needs to get over it.

It really isn't a big deal to me and the same thing happens all the time in all star games. IIRC Ripken jr had a pitch piped in for him in his last all star game also.

I think the talking heads are going to make a much bigger deal about it than it really is. One pitch in the first inning to the first batter of the frame did not win or lose the game for either team.

You couldn't have posted this in a worse thread. I'm the only one taking issue with Wainwright while the rest of the post are defending him or ignoring it all together.

Precisely. Jeter scored one run that inning. It was a two-run victory. That run mathematically didn't matter. And even if it did, the only way you can argue that a World Series result is altered by an All Star Game is if the team with the better record is on the road in Game 7 and loses by one run or in extra innings. This has happened twice in World Series history if I'm not mistaken, so if you're a fan of a national league team, your World Series chances have been altered by way less than 1%.

How are we ignoring the fact that its not really an issue. Its an all-star game. Who really cares. If you are making a big deal about hf advantadge, then the NL should have played better the rest of the game to assure victory. You think if Kershaw started he would not have done the same thing. I think he would have.
