I've been shopping around for home security systems and I noticed that Comcast has a pretty decent package deal that offers internet, cable, and a home security system for around $159 a month.

I know that Comcast is a huge company and subject to crappy customer service issues, but how is their home security products? I also notice that Uverse offers one but I know very little about it.

Basically, I'm now looking at package deals and wondering what your thoughts were, and if you have any personal experiences with either products. Thanks guys.

If you want "true" home security, I'd recommend a good, reliable, local company that is affiliated with dedicated & proven monitoring centers. A few selected exterior openings, a motion detector & keypad don't a security system make. If you're serious, hire a pro. Never (and I do mean NEVER) would I trust my security to the incompetence of Comcast.

Well that's definitely a concern, but do other systems offer full home automation as well? i really like that about the Comcast system .

I do like the Honeywell system, but does it integrate with a paid monitored system?

Look into the 2gig line. Not sure where you are located but plenty dealers are installing them down here in NOLA.

Home Automation is in the hardware and there's any number of brands that can handle most any function you need. I would do some homework on your local guys, tell them what you're interested in & ask to see either a functional demo unit or better yet, ask if they can arrange to visit one of their customers with a similar setup - most will be happy to do this. I would personally not be inclined to enter a long-term agreement with a faceless national company on matters of home security. Buying the system is merely the initial step in a long-term affiliation between you and your provider and having a local party to deal with will pay dividends sooner or later. Remember this - the national companies have an interest in only one thing - the monthly monitoring fees. Many of them use proprietary equipment and if you become dissatisfied & want to change over to someone else you may not be able to since others could not access the programming. In addition to using local dealers I'd also suggest that you be sure any other vendor could access the equipment you intend to have them install for the same reason.

ok, bumping to see if any of you guys can put together a system for me with links. I have no clue what to get, but I really like what Comcast has to offer. If you don't want me signing up with them, for the ease of getting a package deal, help a dummy out!
