I've developed an addiction to nasal spray over the past year. I could get thru the day without it if I really wanted to...but at night, I have to have it to sleep. I get so clogged up I wake up with a dry throat and have to get up to get water and take a few hits from the Afrin.

I have it in my desk at work, nightstand and the center console of my car...usually do it about 2x per day on average, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Anyone successfully kicked his addiction to the curb?

Afrin is terrible. You are just chasing your tail. Afrin isn't making anything better, but worse.

Friends dad had the same problem. Basically he just went cold turkey with it and his body eventually adjusted. People don't realize how easy it is for your body to get hooked on that stuff

Ah. A coworker friend got addicted to nasal spray. I can not remember what he did. I know he started local honey for his allergies

I didn't mean to hit submit yet

You basically have to quit cold turkey and just realize you are going to sleep like shite for at least a week. After that it should be get better.

Steroid shot for the inflammation and just stop using it. Get some breathe right strips.

It's definitely a real problem for people who have chronic sinus issues. Nasal spray only makes it worse over time, go see an ENT doc and get it handled

Have you tried taking Benadryl at night? Maybe switch to some nasal spray that's just saline or moisturizing? Maybe some breathe right strips?

Your body gets physically addicted to that stuff and quits making snot. You have to get a steroidal nose spray to normalize your mucous production.

Nasal spray is not addictive. Your body builds up a resistance to it and it becomes less and less effective, but the spray itself is not addictive. Same net effect I guess. Just quit using it for a week or so and your body will readjust.
