NBA teams to get mark on jerseys for winning championships

I think this is a cool idea.
All NBA teams that have won a championship will wear a small gold tab on their back jersey collars starting with the 2014-15 season, according to images obtained from an adidas retail catalog that began circulating on the Internet on Tuesday afternoon.
The gold championship tab would be the first league-wide championship badge ever used by one of the "Big Four" North American professional sports leagues, and is similar to the star system used by soccer teams to denote World Cup titles.

I think they should put a NBA trophy emblem on the shoulder of the previous years champ. Only the previous year champ would get to wear it for that year. Would be pretty cool.

It sounds like you get one mark, no matter how many championships. And teams will be able to get the tag if the franchise has moved...although Deadspin was joking that there would be riots if the Thunder wore a tag for the championship the Supersonics won in the 1970s.

yep, with two emblems for repeat champs, 3 emblems for threepeats etc.

It seems like a great idea until you realize there's a NBA champion every year IMO. Soccer can do this because of the scarcity, and it can look good on a jersey. 16 golden tabs for the Celtics? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I think it's a pretty cool idea.
I really like the idea people here are throwing around of having an O'Brien trophy decal for the current champ. It would be like wearing a championship belt. Brilliant marketing too because you know that team's fans will all run out and buy that year's championship jersey and our recent Miami Heat/former Bulls fans/former Laker fans/current Cavs or TBD fans would be buying a new team's jersey every year.

What if the collar of the jersey is gold? You wouldn't be able to see a gold tab.
