Debra Harrell works at McDonald's in North Augusta, South Carolina. For most of the summer, her daughter had stayed there with her, playing on a laptop that Harrell had scrounged up the money to purchase. (McDonald's has free WiFi.) Sadly, the Harrell home was robbed and the laptop stolen, so the girl asked her mother if she could be dropped off at the park to play instead.

Harrell said yes. She gave her daughter a cell phone. The girl went to the park—a place so popular that at any given time there are about 40 kids frolicking—two days in a row.

quote:

On her third day at the park, an adult asked the girl where her mother was. At work, the daughter replied.

The shocked adult called the cops. Authorities declared the girl "abandoned" and proceeded to arrest the mother.

This happens literally everyday at that shitty waterpark off Florida. Mothers drop their kids off, some well under 9, and leave until later that afternoon. They think it is some kind of daycare

Good. Don't be a shitty parent and leave your kids at a park unsupervised.

I agree its a really bad idea to leave a 9 year old unsupervised while you go to work all day. even at home by herself it a terrible idea with no adult around.

this is why AStro World shutdown. Thug "families" were using it as a summer day care service. drop their kids off in the morning with no money and let them hang out there for 12 hours harassing people and stealing stuff. Bye Bye astroworld.

So what was the mother's plan if the girl fell on the playground and broke her leg or something?

If Nolan Ryan knew what was being done to the name of the Astros, he'd be rolling in his grave bros.

We used to play in the woods and the fields and the bayous by ourselves all day.

No one got arrested.

My mom, dad, and grandparents would have been put in jail for a life term for this.

It is strange the difference in reactions. Take your kids to a park, water park, or rec center, and drop them off. SHITTY PARENTS ABANDONING THEIR KIDS!

Kids bike to the woods a mile away, walk around shooting the shite, and it's a typical summer outing.
