Billionaire's breakup plan would chop California into six states

effort to break California into six separate states got a boost on Monday, when the billionaire venture capitalist behind the proposal said he had gathered enough signatures to place it on the ballot in two years.

Timothy Draper, a founder of a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that has invested in Twitter, Skype and Tesla, among other companies, has been agitating for months for a ballot initiative to chop the most populous U.S. state into smaller entities.

"It’s important because it will help us create a more responsive, more innovative and more local government, and that ultimately will end up being better for all of Californians," said Roger Salazar, a spokesman for the campaign. "The idea ... is to create six states with responsive local governments - states that are more representative and accountable to their constituents."

Salazar said Monday that the campaign had gathered more than the roughly 808,000 signatures needed to place the measure on the November, 2016 ballot.

How exactly? This would allow the conservative blocs of California to finally have more of a voice. And busting up those electoral college votes would be sweet.

Here is a map of "six states of california", in comparison to presidential elections:

West California, silicon valley, and North california would be dem. (6 democratic senators)

Jefferson and Central california would be republican. (4 senators)

South California (where I live), will be a swing state. Orange county isn't as Republican as it used to be, and latinos are still coming here. It will end up being blue. So add another 2 senators to the Democratic column.

In a related story, Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden is exploring a run for California governor on the Better Together ticket.

He plans to annex railroads though uninhabited parts of Nevada and Utah, so that a then contiguous Colorado can become a part of California.

When asked for a comment, Kip replied, "You'll hear all of my promises soon, as soon as I can decide which silly-arse costume to wear to my campaign kickoff event."

Nothing a little gerrymandering can't fix.
