Two versions of the Nexus 5 including the 16GB and 32GB models experienced price drops this week through eBay.

The online retailer is now offering the smaller capacity version for $334.99 and the 32GB model for $379.99. They are brand new models and the deal includes free shipping. People from New York and New Jersey will have to pay tax if they buy the either version of the Nexus 5 through eBay.

How does this phone compare to the S4? I'm borderline phone retarded. I do like my S4 though.

Nexus 5 and 7 getting upgrades soon. This pretty much confirms it.

Is it really a piece of shite or do you not like Touchwiz? I had it and thought it was a good phone after I "tweaked" it. Even something as simple as changing to Textra,Nova launcher... made it a good phone. It might have been an underwhelming change but it is still not a bad phone.

The air stuff was gimmicky but just turn it off if you don't like it.

eta: to OP, I would buy that if I didn't already have a great phone in the HTC One

I believe that was his point. S4 required you to install a custom rom, kernel or any other mod for it to function smoothly. Nexus 5 is FAR superior and I would recommend it to anyone.

I base the phones on stuff I can't change, like speakers, camera, screen, battery size, processor, memory (expandable/fixed). If I can turn off a setting or change the way it handles then I don't care who makes it (within major companies). I am going to root it anyway.

Android phones vs iOS is uncannily similar to the PC vs Mac debate of the 1990s. You trade cost for flexibility.

Much like HP, dell, gateway etc bloated windows.. Samsung and att and verizen bloat your device.

The big difference is that you can't really get back to a base win xp install in android on a Samsung.. You're at the mercy of the crazies on XDA.

Eta it's a shame Google didn't make vanilla android available as an option for any phone. I know that's a big undertaking but that would be a huge first step to reigning in the phones.

Why couldn't Google have a site where they make vanilla Android available to all the phones which you can install with one click (something like what CyanogenMod is doing these days?) What is preventing them? That would be so awesome if somebody could get a HTC One or a LG G3 knowing you could pretty much erase the OEM skin and install plain vanilla Android without too much of an effort.

Tangent: What size do you think the next Nexus phone is going to be? Is it going to be based on the LG G3? 5.5" is too big in my opinion. I hope they stay in the 5" range, which is the perfect compromise between one handed use and display size.

There is still a question as to whether or not it is even coming.

That was/remains the best rumor.

I got bad news for you - the rumored new Nexus 8 tablet (again, probably HTC), is supposed to measure 8.9" and replace both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

Phones and tablets (phablets?) - just like Americans, keep getting bigger and bigger.

One can only hope with the phablet craze, that a mini option becomes standard.

I keep hearing different things about who the manufacturer will be. I've heard LG, HTC and Asus are the front runners.

How does nobody know this yet if there indeed will be a next gen Nexus phone?

Because they keep that close to the vest and the Android Silver program talk is confusing.

If Nexus 5 had come to Verizon, I would have one now. With the price drop, I might take it and go pre-paid on T-Mobile.

Because each phone has different hardware, which requires different drivers. The manufacturers aren't going to just make these drivers available for anyone to replace the OS (plus bloatware) on their phones.

Plus, much of the appeal of Android (to manufacturers) is the fact that it's free and modifiable. If their OS is easily replaced, they would likely start moving away from Android. That would be bad for Google.

Well they're doing a damn strong job of that.

I'm assuming it would release mid fall like the N5. If that's the case they probably need to start manufacturing soon I'm guessing?

I'm just surprised there hasn't been a supply chain leak or something like that.

Well - this is towards which Android Silver is supposed to be a big step - Nexus "light".
