Essen Lane shut down on Friday 7/18

Saw a road sign on Perkins today giving the warning that the road will be closed on a fricking Friday - any idea why DOT would wait until the worst traffic day of the week in BR to shut down a busy street like that? I'm hoping to hear something important like magma is surfacing or there's a nuclear bomb under the pavement that could go off, but I'm sure it's for something stupid like changing a light bulb on the 50 red lights in that 2 mile stretch.

I know they are adding another lane so it will be 3 lanes in each direction with a turn lane. Probably has something to do with that.

That's my birthday. I rented out the whole street for a block party for me and 11 friends. Sorry for partying.

It is to reconstruct a railroad crossing.

I saw this as well. Any details as to how much of Essen is closed? I work in the United Plaza area so this concerns me greatly.

Im fairly certain they are adding a lane/widening Essen. Prepare your anus for years of construction traffic... not just this Friday.

Motorists are suggested to use the following detours during the closure:
Drivers south of the closure traveling north on Essen Lane should take Perkins Road to Bluebonnet Boulevard to detour around the closure.
I-10 eastbound drivers should exit at Acadian Thruway then travel east on Perkins Road to Essen Lane.
I-10 westbound traffic should exit at Bluebonnet Boulevard, travel south to Perkins Road, then west to Essen Lane.

Maybe it's a project that can't be completed in one day, so instead of shutting it down for 3 work days, they're only shutting it down one work day and two weekend days.

I work on Bluebonnet and I know that shutting down essen is going to completely clog bluebonnet all day. Absolutely retarded to do that on a Friday.

So it's only going to be closed between Perkins and I-10 to fix the railroad crossing? Just for that Friday?

Get out of here with that logic.
BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that Essen Lane will be closed at the railroad crossing south of Interstate 10 starting Friday, July 18 at 9 p.m. through Monday, July 21 at 5 a.m. The weekend-long closure will allow crews from the Kansas City Southern Railway to reconstruct the Essen Lane railroad crossing.

So it won't even be closed during business hours.

It'll never be finished in time.

If it does run over into later Monday morning, Picardy will turn into a nice parking lot.
