What does the group like to do for enjoyment...historic?...dining/shopping?....relaxing?....fishing?
basically gotta figure out whether you are looking for city or rural place to stay first...

where is point clear.
and as far as what we enjoy, its me and my wife and my parents. We enjoy all different things, of course the ladies like shopping, but we all love just getting away and relaxing, eating out, and seeing new things. We camp "in cabins", we like going to new attractions, just open to suggestions

Point clear is a resort in fairhope alabama.
If you weren't so far away I'd say cabin in highlands nc and escape the heat.

Drive through Hot Springs not long ago. It looked like a real cool town.

For cabins on a lake, I would try lake Tiak O Khata near Louisville...very nice, peaceful private lake with a good resturant...not much shopping or anything like that there, though...
if you like historical type places, try Natchitoches, LA...small town with a historic feel very similar to Natchez..lots of bed and breakfasts, resturants, etc...it is the town where the movie steel magnoilias was filmed...you can also day trip up to shreveport from there for gambling and other city-type stuff...
if you are interested in the cajun culture, head to Lafayette, LA...lots of good food and touristy-type stuff to do in that area...

I was born and raised here
things to do:
here is the Grand Hotel
At night I have caught many redfish and specs on the lights on the pier of the Grand
Golf: Rock Creek
As far as Fairhope do it with your lady because she will like it
Go to the Fairhope pier
This was my view on the 4th in Daphne

I'd call first before going to Lake Tiak O Khata it's real close to where the F-4 tornado passed in April.

Just got back from shady lake a few weeks ago. The place was amazing. Perfect "get away from everything" kind of vacation.
