Any good?

I liked it but it is a very Crazy Heart type movie so you shouldn't be expecting a lot of action.

Just noticed it has justin timber lake

He's actually pretty good in it.
Posted on 7/12/14 at 3:14 pm to kjntgr
He's only in a couple scenes and like the poster above me said he does a solid job.

Other than a few good songs the movie is easily forgettable.

I didn't like it much on first watch. Upon second watch, I thought it was much better. The reason why I had to watch it twice is because I fell asleep the first time.
Not a lot going on in the movie to say the least.

Not for people who enjoyed it

It was okay. Good acting and a couple of capturing scenes. But overall it just kinda meandered and ultimately fell flat for me.

There is no reason to see this movie, unless you like a story with no laughs, no interesting dialogue, no characters to care about, but featuring a typical guy living life as a selfish bum.

Movie is okay. The music is much better.

I liked it a lot and I'm really not exactly sure why. I guess the Coen dark humor, and the music, and the cat.

It was one of my top movies of last year.
If you like Coen Brothers movies, see it.
If you like great performances, see it.
If you enjoy folk music, see it.
If you like period pieces about the early 60's, see it.
If you're interested in the history of the folk movement, see it.
The music (and soundtrack) are fantastic. The majority of the songs that you see performed on film were recorded live, on film. So you're seeing and hearing the actual performance (instead of lip syncing).
Timberlake has a supporting role that he plays in a perfectly understated manner. And he nails his musical performances.
It doesn't have Transformers or Wall Street billionaires snorting coke off of hookers' asses or Seth Rogen telling weed jokes. It's not your typical happy ending period piece. It's a look at a small slice of the life of an artist who's at the point where he has to decide whether he should continue banging his head against the professional music wall or if he should quit and be another guy working for a paycheck.
One of the best films of last year and it should've had at least one major Oscar nomination.

That scene where he played in front of the record company was phenomenal.

Yea I caught them both the first week they were out - just had a feeling neither would be around long. A shame.

I love when you guys break out the cliched argument about explosions and transformers when someone doesn't like a crappy boring movie.
Your cliched weak arse argument makes almost no sense because most people who watched the film probably have seen most or all of the Coen's work and they AREN'T in the subset you are tying to LUMP them in.

No kidding. Coens have done far better and of course have done much worse. The music was good, but that's not a reason to see a movie. That's a reason to like music or movie soundtrack. If I wanted to be entertained by folk music in a movie I would have rented A Mighty Wind.
For me, the best movie of the year that I saw was Her.

crappy boring movie
