Good builder? Pros/cons? His houses are pricey, wondering if there is good quality to meet that price

Ron Lee builds a nice house. Get one that Chris Jenkins framed. Also consider Fred Aldridge, if you are looking at that category of home.

ETA: look for and at houses trimmed out by Mike Vickers. He is the best trim man in STP.

I do not personally know Ron, but I have seen his homes and know some subs he uses. The ones I know do quality work and have not heard them talk bad about him or his products. I know he has been doing big customs lately and they are not cheap, but everything I have heard he checks out.

You were young, is it for parents or you looking to work?

Lee > Aldridge, in my humble opinion.

They've both been at it about the same length of time but Lee has built quite a few more homes (custom and spec) than Aldridge.

The market here is as hot as I've ever seen it. OP will have to wait for a custom by the good builders. Ron Lee may still have some specs, IDK.

I would have agreed with you 2-3 years ago, but now Fred has Jenkins framing and Vickers trimming.

He has the best framer and best trim man.

Fred keeps up details extremely well.

I saw Ron Lee had a couple spec homes in the 300k range. Any other quality builders in the area have 2000-2200 sq ft new construction for $270-$310k range? I don't mind spec as long as the builder is quality

I've experienced DSLD as a starter home and while it's great for that, the quality is shite...like most of the cookie cutters

I've worked with many of his subs, from what I hear he's a good builder but I've never been in any of his houses.

Where are you looking to live or build?

I thought Jenkins hung it up for some reason. I guess he closed his operation down and went to work for Fred.

Anybody in this thread know of any builders in the area looking for a superintendent?

I've managed everything from 2000 sf specs to 16000 sf customs.

Not that I was aware. He did my house, back a year or a ago.
I was glad to get him. He cleaned up a few "architectural" errors and made several excellent suggestions.

That's getting to be on the smallish side for spec, IMO.

I'll keep an eye out for you.
