Anybody ever ordered a battery replacement kit for iPhone 5 off Amazon or ifixit? Worth the savings and effort or should I have it done at Apple store for more $

If you can follow directions on a video, yes.

Yeah it looks easy enough was more worried about the quality of the battery itself

I've done it with a kit off of amazon. Watched a YouTube video to see how to do it. Wasn't too difficult. Hardest part was opening the phone.

My battery was so bad any replacement would have been a major upgrade.

Yeah, it's not like the OEM phone battery is anything great. I'm sure that some aftermarket batteries are better than others, but don't judge them based on price. A lot of "knock-off" iPhone parts are made in the same factory as the "real" ones (i.e., the ones sold to Apple). The Chinese have zero fricks to give.

I've changed a few batteries in iPhones using $4.99 kits from eBay and they've been fine.

I got the kit from iFixIt and replaced the battery twice. The first time successfully. The 2nd time I jerked the screen away from the body with the suction cup too hard and ripped the 3 ribbon cables connecting them.

Well I'm gonna give it a try. My battery is draining about 10% every 30 minutes just by being on much less if I'm using it. I'll go from 100 to 20 in about an hour if I'm using it
