So says the CEO of American Airlines. Want to know why you pay more now than in 2000?

No worries, this legislation has bipartisan support!
Why can't we refill the highway fund with these fees, surcharges and taxes.

American Airlines is trying to change this lack of transparency so our customers can see the real cost of the ticket, including how much goes to taxes and fees.
I would love to see a world where every business put this on a receipt.

Someone has to pay for the retarded TSA employees to sit around and joke all day.

abolish the TSA.
But let's be realistic the reason why base tickets cost more in 2000 was the economy was humming along then. The dot com bubble was just starting to pop, but business travel was still going strong (traveled a lot in 2000).

What kind of subsidies has the Airline industry received since 2000?

Not sure why this would be relevant to the amount the passenger would pay to the government .

They should be forced to list the hourly salary of the pilots on the flight. Something like:
BTW, the extra charges aren't all that much. Stay in a hotel lately? Plus I don't see charges for each stop at an airport. That is about $20 / stop... which is why I feel extra incentive to try to book direct all of the time.

DID YOU KNOW that nearly one quarter of the price you paid for your ticket today went to the U.S. government?
I did kinda figure the TSA wasn't free. I suppose the taxpayer should foot the bill instead?

MSY and Houston Bush have the most laid back joke crackin TSA guys of any airports I think.
Once at Houston Bush I was just making it through security. I had an LSU shirt on. The guy stopped me, said "Wait a second". He put his hand near the small of my back, and told the other TSA guy "I think we got an Alabama tattoo here!" Unprofessional - maybe. But I thought it was funny as shite.
