I'll be visiting in New Iberia this weekend and want to take the kids fishing for reds or trout. Never been to that area, any helpful suggestions? Guides were booked up and I have no boat!

Gonna be tough. Hell that place is marginal with a boat much less without.

Cypremort point state park is nice, there is a beach area and some pavilions. Your not likely to catch any trout or reds off the bank though. Crabbing might be fun.

you're limited to the park. And I don't think you're allowed to fish from the beach. Be prepared to catch a ton of hardheads, if anything. Best bet would be to drive to the end, and fish Shark Bayou, if the jetski crowd doesn't have it covered up.

How do you go crabbing? This might be fun for the boys.

all you need is string, a couple dip nets, and some melt/chicken leg quarters/turkey necks

maybe some little sticks to hammer in the ground and tie your string to

google map "Price Lake Rd" for a good starting point...it's a decent drive from New Iberia though

maybe someone else knows closer spots

you won't catch many fish from the bank

Go crabbing at Joseph's Harbor. My neighbor did quite well there last weekend.

what fin said. you wont catch anything at the cyp point state park. the water is very nasty there right now. i fished there all last weekend. i caught my fish on the south side of marsh island.

best bet is head to vermillion parish. price lake road is great for crabs.
