Anyone have recommendations on this subject? Possibly looking for an historical account used to illustrate facts on the topic, especially if it is applicable to the USA's current situation.

I am striking out on this topic on the money board.

I do NOT what a political analysis. I don't want "preaching to the choir." I want an economic thesis with hard hitting analysis, numbers, preferably with historic examples. It is okay if it reads like a textbook.

It's not exactly what you're aiming for but Rise and Fall by Kennedy is a pretty thorough read.

Thanks for the suggestion, it appears to be a decent read.

Unfortunately, it seems to focus on the overextension of empire and thus collapse. The left will tell you it is the military spending and the right will tell you it is the welfare spending. The truth is both are true. Again, I am not interested in that. I want a book that analyzes the debt of nations from an economic viewpoint.

Well that's partly true.

Rise and Fall deals with over expansion, but it's really about the fluctuations of relative strength between nations.

He delves into government spending, financial institutions, and a whole range of other variables.
