It's kind of hard to tell. Depending how heavy the thing is. I'd definitely put three L brackets and some 1-1/2" screws into the studs.

You may just want to spend two hundred on a flat screen and mount that. It will be way easier and has much less chance of falling. Good luck with it.

Honestly, this. You obviously aren't worried about the picture since I see what you're trying to mount. Go by a cheapo flat screen from wal mart and a cheap TV mount. I know you're obviously not trying to spend money, but I think you'll be a lot happier with the final product. You can probably get it all for 200 bucks.

Then don't waste your time with that tube tv. Football is like 7 weeks away

Ah the OT. I should've put in the OP I'm not spending more than the money needed for parts.
One day I'll be a zillionaire like the OTers but today ain't that day.

$119

$22

Not a "great" setup, but better than what you are trying to do with that bigass tv.

Well if you're going to upgrade before football season (which is a month away), why not just do it now instead of wasting your time mounting that TV from the 90s?

If you're dead set on mounting that thing in the OP, then you should be fine but don't use that cheap arse L bracket you showed. Make sure you get something with some support under it like

You could probably make a decent mount if you have some screws and 2x4's laying around and a miter box/saw.

Screw two 2"x4" two the wall studs and one across the front and put your triangle shaped piece of plywood on top of the 2x4 frame you attached to the wall. Hook up rabbit ears and enjoy your shitty picture.

Thanks guys.

And upgrades will be done with drywall, floors, couch, etc. Not doing all that crap today on my only day off but want a TV in there NOW!
