They're in the miniseries category, sufficiently represented.

Very true. I love them all and will be happy for whoever wins.

The Good
Woody Harrelson
Lizzy Caplan
Silicon Valley
Game of Thrones
Robert Morse
Fargo

The Bad
Downton Abbey (how the frick did this terrible season get that many nominations AND a Best Drama nom )
Jeff Daniels (once again WTF)
The Americans (at the least Rhys should have taken Jeff Daniels spot)
Homeland (another terrible season that is well represented in the acting categories)

I am beginning to wonder if a lot of the voters even watch these shows anymore. How does Christina Hendricks get nominated? She literally did nothing on Mad Men this season. Every other Mad Men cast member is more deserving than her. And no Dean Norris? Really?

Why are all these Orange is the new Black people considered guest stars? They're in every episode.

Because for the 1st season, none of them were in the opening credits. It's a loophole.

Honestly, the Emmys are doing a lot better than they were five years ago. They are doing a reasonably good job of keeping track of a radically shifting TV landscape. These are some pretty diverse nominations which cover everything from network, to minor cable, to subscription cable, to Netflix. There's just such a huge universe now, and the Emmys, after some missteps, has managed to get their arms around the whole thing.

That said, Tatiana Maslany's snub is a spectacular drop of the ball. The Americans probably shhould've been nominated, and so should The Good Wife as a token network nomination (boy, how times have changed there), but those are forgivable errors. And the Emmys jumped off of Homeland at the right time, so they get a pass for sticking with Downtown Abbey too long.

Still, they did a reasonably good job, aside from Tatiana Maslany. You can see the logic of every other call.

No, they don't. If it was just a couple nominations, fine. Downton clogged up every major category except for Lead Actor. It had TWO nominations in Supporting Actress. It also has no business sniffing Best Drama Series with all the TV that is on right now.

ETA: I will give them credit for diversifying across network, cable, premium cable, and digital though.

- True Detectives is going to run away with so many awards this year.
- Anna Gunn or Aaron Paul will win the supporting actor/actress award so BB doesn't get swept out of the major ones.

- Louie deserves the major comedy awards.
- Macy isn't the lead male in Shameless anymore. That honor belongs to Jeremy Allen White, who carried the last (and arguably) best season of Shameless. I'd mark out if he won an Emmy.
- Hoping Braugher or Armisen for Supporting Actor.

I actually think Matt beats Cranston this year. Cranston actually hasn't won since 2010.

Tatiana Maslany not getting an "Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series" nomination for Orphan Black makes this entire thing a sham.

Yep, that's the biggest joke of all the nominations. Ridiculous for two years in a row.

Eh not really. It's not nominated in very many categories. It will win Best Actor and probably Best Directing but I think that's it.

I wish Woody and Matt could both get one. I think Matt had a more challenging character, but they both did really good.

Eta: I'm surprised Michelle Monaghan didn't get nominated.

I was happy to see Woody get a nomination. Not surprised about Michelle though. Her performance was good, but she was a pretty one-dimensional female character.

This is the quote to sums up best actor.

Cranston brandishing his Tony against McConaughey's Oscar is bringing a knife to a gunfight. And yes, I called McConaughey's Oscar a secondary 2014 award. Suck it.

The category really is loaded though. You have a three-time Emmy winner, two other Emmy winners, two Oscar winners, and a SEVEN!!-time Emmy nominee.
