Because the guidelines are discretionary.

I'm sure you'll keep repeating that ad nauseam, but I doubt that has much to do with it.

News flash: if you're old and broke, may as well commit some crimes because you'll get a light sentence.

Judge had to keep his sock/shoes on .... and, as such, couldn't count any higher.

NOLA culture
JL's "resignation" certainly didn't help anything

Yes, Judge Berrigan was infused with it while growing up in New Rochelle, NY.

And Letten's resignation has nothing to do with it.

The max was 20. Judges like to cut things down the middle unless you really piss them off. 10 was the middle.

I met Ginger Berrigan about twenty years ago when a friend of mine was in need of legal representation. Comes across as both a competent attorney and as a very nice woman. However there was little doubt her heart bleeds a bit.

NOLA has a reputation as one of, if not the most, politically corrupt city in the United States...do you deny this? You don't have to be 8th generation brah to participate in NOLA customs.

but allow me to rephrase my original post as I was too brief:

Really, I don't know why at all; however, If I had to guess, I would assume
NOLA culture
JL's "resignation" didn't help

I said it didn't help because I cannot say if his successor is more or less competent

The max was 20/count of bribary, of which he was found guilty for 5 of them. There were maxes of 10 per count of another half dozen crimes he was found guilty of. This sentencing is a joke.

Are you claiming Judge Berrigan is politically corrupt? Because if not, whether NOLA is politically corrupt or not has nothing to do with Judge Berrigan's decision.

Once again, you speak out of your arse and what comes out smells the same.
