How good is Michael Brantley? In my opinion, he is the most underrated player in MLB. This kid does it all and is continuing to get better. He has been consistent in his carreer, which is all you can ask for. He has speed, power and a great arm. I think he should be starting in the All Star Game, but because he plays for Cleveland, he gets overlooked? Agree or no? Season stats:

.328 AVG
60 RBI
14 HR
59 R
108 1B
22 2B
1 3B
10 SB
29 BB
.329 OBP
.529 SLG
.920 OPS
3.9 WAR

Yeh, he was consistently mediocre up until this year.

He's at career high numbers halfway through the year, and it's not exactly a small sample of at bats.

He's not underrated.

And then you say he's not underrated? A carreer .294 AVG is average i guess. My bad

I was about to say this has to be damn near impossible but his OBP is .391. Assuming you got your #'s mixed up

Nice season

I wouldn't say underrated... more overlooked

Hes always been a good hitter... the rbi and run production is up because hes been moved to the top of a much improved Indians lineup

Im not sure how to explain the jump in power numbers though.

His 3.9 WAR (most important i think) is second ONLY to Mike Trout in the AL outfield...yup average.

It's easy, IMO.

It's a career year. Everyone has them.

But it's also just 86 games, and we have four other years of mediocre production from him.

I'm not hating pappy, he's been my best player in SBL, so I hope this continues. I'm just speaking, in my mind, the truth.

Did you miss the part of career year this year? And that he's been average for his career prior to 2014?

He's always been solid! When he first started, he played on some bad Cleveland teams with Manny Acta as head coach. He was a stud prospect when he was in the minors. With Francona guiding him, you are seeing the real Michael Brantley. This kid isnt a flash in the pan. He is goint to be a perennial All Star. Dude can flat out play!

He's a solid, young outfielder. I would agree with whoever said he's overlooked, not necessarily underrated.

How is he being underrated and overlooked when he's being recognized as an All Star this year?

Because he should be starting. His total numbers in terms of outfielders, is second only to Mike Trout. Plus, he should have made the All Star game in 2012. At the time of the game he was around .300 AVG. He finished the year with 37 doubles which i believe led all AL outfielders. I just think he is underrated.

I'm glad your son/nephew is finally playing well. Congrats on living through him vicariously.

All-Star starting is a popularity contest. You're right, because he plays in the beautiful city of Cleveland, Oh., he is getting past over for one of the three OF positions in Minnesota.

Id pump the brakes on perennial All-Star talk, though.

yeah I think this dude is getting a little ahead of himself...

The real Michael Brantley is somewhere in between this, and last year... a 90/15/80/15 type of player. Alex Gordon-sih

I fully expect him to cool down in the 2nd half, especially power wise

The guy was due for a breakout...but he may be a tad too hot right now.

He is incredibly smart. He has a nice, compact swing. He never tries to do too much with a pitch. He has a great eye at the plate.

Combine that with solid fielding, good speed, etc...and he could be an all-star several more times. But I think the Alex Gordon comparison is fair...the power will not morph into multiple 30 HR seasons.

That's ok though. I think he's a tad overlooked as well. He's no Mike Trout, but a valuable piece for future contending Indians teams.
