that other thread has gone to the legal topic of land rights. i dont think we've ever properly talked about the cca and what it really does, so new thread.

some fisherman in the past called me stupid for not paying the annual 50 dollars to cca for their star tournament. the one where after paying $50 if you catch one of ten tagged fish you get a truck or a boat. people here too, maybe some lobbyists?, are saying the same thing - you'd be a fool to fish in louisiana waters and not pay the 50 bones. then they say even if you dont win, you're still supporting a good cause.

i just think it's not very different from playing the lottery, and the only people i know who play the lottery or gamble are stupid. and they all lose money. they have about 12,000 people sign up for the tournament every year, so bout 600,000 grand raked in through their game. they might give away 80 grand in prizes a year. not sure how much really. maybe less. they are making an absolute killin on stupid anglers.

financially, it's stupid to give money to the cca, if you think it's a good investment. it's not.

but what about for charitable reasons paying the money. like someone else said in the other thread, what has the cca done in the last 20 years? back in the 80s, the gcca was pushing for the gill net ban on redfish, and was a big part of that. but what have they done since?

i'm not going to give them a cent of my hard earned money. and i resent when people here and in real life call me foolish for not doing it. in fact, i think you're the fool for giving them your money.

Gill net ban on redfish

1st: redfish declared a sport fish; ended commercial fishing for reds.
2nd: ban on gill nets for trout

Both of things have improved recreational fishing for decades, and make continued membership worth it. The STAR tourney is a bonus, and I join even if I don't fish. Your anger over their failure to take up your right to trespass on private property is silly. Perhaps you could start your own organization to promote trespassing, Poachers Unlimited.

im not the one talking about trespassing and property. never had any trouble fishing with property owners - you must have me confused with someone else.

so what the gcca helped do 25 years ago is reason to support the cca today?

It's basically a $50 insurance policy vs me catching a tagged redfish and never forgiving myself for not signing up.

Plus I enjoy the articles in Tide magazine.

You are not smart

Eta. Don't give a frick where the money goes. I'll be damned if I'm going to miss out on a chance to win something while I'm fishing over chump change

CCA Dirty Little Secret

This is a little tinfoil hat for my taste. But still, I don't think they are the organization that they lead people to believe they are.

I fish quite a bit, but I do not participate in the STAR tournament.

will watch later.

but seriously, what does the cca do with all the huge profits they get every year?

fishermen who think they're going to win - just like the old purple haired ladies in the silver slipper pumping dollars in their machines.

^^^^This^^^^

ETA The first tagged redfish was already caught but the guy hadn't registered. I would imagine he's doing this to himself right now.
