When NOLA.com broke the story an hour ago they said the casino was requesting annexation. They did a quick retraction, but it looks like we now have an idea how the city is trying to get to the casino...

good.
imo the city should annex every piece of unincorporated contiguous land left in the Parish. Get it over with.
This would have been done a long time ago were it not for the bone-headed joint city-parish government that has council members and the chief executive representing two sets of constituents.

Will they be annexing the residential areas which are currently unincorporated?
I seriously doubt that and that's part of the core issue here.

Do those areas WANT annexation?

The city isn't going after residential areas. It changes the annexation requirements, and they don't want to have to cover police and fire for people who are already paying for those services themselves.

I think a lot of these areas really want their own city if they're going to be continually fricked by BR proper.
The problem is that this set of tactics by BR will end up making a lot of these areas ineligible for incorporation into St. George because they'll be unincorporated pockets completely surrounded by Baton Rouge.

i know.
but do those people want to be annexed anyway? if they don't its kind of a moot issue.

So why isn't the casino also asking to come in now?
And what happened to the MOL anchor stores? I thought they were coming in too? Same with LSU????

He is still waiting for EBR Parish and Baton Rouge to become the next Travis Country and Austin, Texas.
The only problem is Travis Country has multiple independent school districts and multiple munis.
LOL
These guys are something else.

This crap is getting dirtier by the minute.
So the property owner, charles Lambert, has been trying to get a casino permit for more than 10 years, unsuccessfully. Now he owns the property that could connect lauberge to BR.....and he suddenly wants to annex it. Hmmm.....

There are no more licenses to be had plus BR is saturated; he's looking for a favor for something else.
630 acres of pasture land and he's worried about what SG might do to his property values?????
LOL

That worked out well for Shreveport and Detroit. Too much land to provide city resources too. Not enough taxpayers to pay for it. Taxpayers run from crazy uncontrollable growing governments.

Big if, the city is growing very slow right now and the rest of the parish some but only Zachary and Central are really growing "fast".
The public school system is so bad many families who don't choose to go the private school route or the magnet route leave the parish to Ascension or Livingston.
Parish leaders are being shortsighted IMHO. A large, successful ISD in south and east EBR would create an economic boom of sorts within the parish and benefit everyone.

St.George issues statement:
"As long as the law is followed, we will not protest if the L’Auberge Casino would like to be included inside the city limits of Baton Rouge. We feel confident, per the Attorney General’s recent opinion, that any annexations will not affect the legality of our petition.
The City is securing revenue centers that produce money that our movement has already agreed to pay back into the Parish when we incorporate. We will simply adjust what we will put back in based on what the city takes. This annexation will not negatively affect our budget.
The L’Auberge Casino will be spun as a self-determination or a story about safe harbor, but the rational mind can see this for what it is, the City-Parish’s attempt to derail this movement. The City-Parish has attempted to undermine and derail this movement from the beginning, yet here we still stand. We are resolute in our mission, and will stay the course. To our supporters, we could not be more proud of you throughout this process. We have chosen to take the high road, which has proven to be a difficult path. However, we have pushed through the roadblocks, and we have learned that there is a silver lining beyond every obstacle. Far, far better things ahead await the people of St. George.
Projected budget synopsis:
The projected St. George budget, based off of 2013 numbers, was 80 million in total revenue for the general fund. Anticipated governmental costs were listed at 32 million, and we were agreeing to pay back 28 million into the Parish because we felt it was the right thing to do. This would leave our new city with a 20 million dollar surplus. With the recent annexation of the mall, and possible annexation of the casino, we have reevaluated our budget. We will continue to fund all of the constitutional offices totaling 17.5 million, however, we will have to eliminate our other financial support to the parish. This will provide the new city budget with a 15.8 million dollar surplus on day one. There will be no reason for any tax increase."

This statement proves the leaders are liars. There is no "we" who can commit a non-existent city to any future payments. Total lies. As bad as Delgado if not worse.

True but when you thought it suited your argument you used their budget as if it was the Bible.
It's nothing but their blueprint but you are right; it is just a piece of paper that can not be enforced.
