Found this while just surfing. You Louisiana folks better have at least a valid fishing license if you kill a legless reptile... Different southern state snake regulations are in this article. Whole article is very interesting, though. It appears that Virginia ain't the only state where it's illegal to kill a snake. LINK

I'm hunting a 3 ft moccasin that was curled up on the pier yesterday. Dgaf about a license.

I'm not seeing anything in the actual laws about it being illegal to kill snakes.

However, I did find some interesting questions on LDWF FAQ page:
Do snakes die only at sunset?
Do snakes hypnotize their victims?
Do snakes travel in pairs?

ETA: I think you need a license if you're catching them alive. OB ain't worried about that.
