The company I work for his holding it annual rodeo July 19th. Several categories for prizes, like largest Red over 27" / Red under 27", largest Speckled Trout, Flounder / Overall heaviest fish, etc.
I do not salt water fish very often at all and I am looking for some areas where our team could possibly head to really catch some fish.
Rule is you can fish anywhere just need to be at Weigh-In in Lafitte between 1 and 2 pm.
Suggestions would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

Hack berry bay has had some good results lately. About a 30 minute boat ride from lafitte.

Ill be fishing in this tournament also. I dont work for the company but my buddy does. We have fished it the last 2 years. We dont ever fish the lafitte area so its usually hit or miss on our stops. We must have caught 30 15-15.75" reds last year. I can tell you where not to fish this time of year I usualy fish an area that isnt too far of a ride from lafitte so i may make that run this year to eliminate the guessing but i like the chalange of a new location
A lot of people sit at the entrance of the Pen ALL DAY and drop shrimp to the bottom to land big drum and reds. The trout divion is usually pretty slim, Its a far run down to the coast for trout so not many people do it.

Make the run down the Barataria waterway and fish Queen Bess Island and around Grand Terre Island for specks. On the way back stop and work the rock piles and points around Bay L'Ours for reds and flounder.

Thats quite a run to Queen Bess Island. According to google earth, thats 26 miles as the crow flys which is why I usually concentrate on the bass/reds division. I fish the clovelly farms/Bay L'Ours area a lot so this year ill stay in that area and just run across the lake. I was also told a few spots in the lake salvador area that hold some reds this time of year.

Trailer to myrtle grove marina, hit areas around st Mary's pt and Manila village for trout, run back into marsh for reds. Trailer back to lafitte to pick up winnings.

The ponds off Bayou Dupont are loaded with Reds. I have had good success on the western shoreline of Turtle Bay also. Bay Round, Lake Laurier, Bay Five are also good.

that's where I fished 2 years ago. We picked up 2 reds there (16-18"). we saw a few more but no bites. Went from pond to pond (bay to bay) but didn't find much. That's always a back up plan for us though
